Dear list gurus, I have a new-to-me E92 M3 that requires new tires. I do like the stock 19" OEM 220s but would like a little more aggressive stance without compromsing the handling on my non-EDC car.

I have stock suspension, no spacers. Can I go a little wider than 245/265 w/o rubbing issues? Should I just get the 18/15mm spacers? Is lowering worth the effort and expense?

Not sure about wider tires since it might budge depending on brand but if you get spacers I would say 15/12 as I have those on my OEM 220s with PSS. IT is like flush on stock susp. If you go 18/15 it might rub a bit.

On your OEM M220s, the max. recommended tire widths are 255/275 on 8.5/9.5 wide wheels.
Lowering, say on Eibach Pro Kit, gives a modest drop that improves looks and does have some handling benefits.

You can use the star spec PSS made for the e60 M5. Those rear tires are 285 tires designed for a 9.5" wide wheel. For the front I would go with some 255s.

On my old e93 I hated the stock 245/265. 285 would have been a must have if I bought new tires. I ended up buying some used tires and trading it. The setup was 245/35/19 275/30/19 and it worked ok but the MDM didn't work as well.

thanks for the responses. my E92 has the non-EDC suspension which is great when I'm getting on it but around town it crashes a bit over pavement joint which precipitates complaints and scowls from the Mrs. How is the Eibach Pro? Does it have a duel personality?

Unfortunately, any drop - even as slight as the Pro Kit - does come at a price. A small price in this case as it is just marginally stiffer in my experience. I cannot say how much it will effect the ride in yours without EDC as I have EDC and it's fine for me. If your Mrs. already complains, it's not going to get better. Perhaps it won't get any worse either — and you can get a little better handling and the stance you are after!

Are these the star spec 275's that tire rack sells? if so they also offer a star spec 255, curious what car that was intended for and if it also runs wide.

EDIT: Nevermind, I see the star spec 285's you are referring to now and they are actually PS2's.

Still, curious what the tire rack star BMW 255/275 19" PSS were originally intended for. Perhaps the F80/82?

I have 255 front and 275 rear on 8.5 and 9.5 wheels. Wheels are Rays TE37TTA, but same size as stock. Tires are Continental DW Extreme, which have a thick sidewall so overall I got this sort of meaty look that I like. Suits the car well imo...
I did a bit of searching before buying these tires and people recommend not going above 255 on 8.5 and 275 on 9.5, so I followed the advice.

I'm not seeing a lot of references to tire brands and models in these responses. That makes a HUGE difference.

I know 255/275 RE-71R's fit "tight" on the stock 19's at stock height on my EDC car. No combination of spacers or sport springs can be used either with these tires. They are insanely wide and highly recommended.

Bingo! Brand/type has a lot to do with ride quality. From what I have experienced (compared to PSS), going to AD08R (same size/same wheel) the ride is very firm for the street (I didn't like it for daily). Going with AS3 (now AS3+) the ride was very compliant and grip was decent too.

RE71R has firm sidewalls. Anything north of 255/275 on stock 220s or the 18 inch wheel option (8.5/9.5) is a 'stretch'.

OP Costco has 45K mile warranty on the AS3+ BTW. As long as you don't have crazy camber and rotate, its not a bad deal. (22.5K for rears re: warranty). Heck they have mileage warranty for RE71R too
