Very exagerated lines, obviously conceptual looks. Love the aggressive look that Lexus took from the Lexus LF-LC concept. Hopefully some of the design features particularly the rear duct to the rear tire make it. To me, that particular design aspect realy pops up. I can already imagine the front F-Sport package for this car.

One of the many aspects that Lexus needs to improve on is their tried and true DI 3.5 V6 . It needs to be seriously updated. Its been their since the second generation IS and they used almost the same engine for the new 3.5 V6 GS.

Like the interior design hopefully Lexus follows the conceptual look up to production. Love the tach where it is, in the center.

Mix of LFA and LF-LC. Rumors have it, Toyota is working on new turbocharged I4, V6 and even V8 engines.

Hope those rumors are true, the Lexus lineup besides the hybrids need to improve on their engine choices.

The I6 is an interesting choice for a rumor considering it was in the previous gen Lexus IS/Altezza. Lexus does have history with an I6 but to create a new one, that's a lot of a R&D to spend, which I don't doubt Toyota has the capability and most importantly the money, but will they? Hope it happens.

Right now, I can't see that happening. I don't know how Toyota will be able to recoupe the cost of developing one besides the upcoming Lexus IS line up of lets say for now sedan, coupe, and maybe a convertible.

Then that's a different story, the 3.5 V6 definitely needs to be updated for more power and efficiency, and ofcourse fuel economy.

They should improve on the I6 2JZ design, that motor was bulletproof.

Here's some information about new engines that will appear mid-cycle for the 3rd generation IS -

"This evening I went to a grand opening event for Lexus of Santa Barbara and got to meet Stephen from Lexus Headquarters. Some of you may have met him at the Lexus of Westminster meet. He's the guy that showed up in the silver ISF CCS-R style prototype. I believe him to be a pretty credible source.

He shared some info with me regarding the 3IS. As we know, it's going to be released next June as a 2014 model with the same drivetrains as the current generation. However during the mid cycle refresh of the 3IS, the 250 model will get a twin turbo 4 cylinder engine, while the 350 will be upgraded to a twin turbo 6 cylinder with over 350 HP...which is what I'll be waiting for."

The initial debut will of the 3IS will be with the old 3.5 N/A 306 HP V6 and 2.5L N/A 204 HP V6, but the mid-cycle refresh engines show a lot of promise as far as tuning goes (factory twin turbo with 350 HP stock? I'll take it).

Couple more pictures -

The TT 6 cyl rumor (with ~350 HP) is for the (3IS) IS350 - not ISF. I don't think there are any reports on what kind of engine the 2nd generation ISF will have.

I don't get what BMW was doing. E90-->300 HP. F30 --> 300 HP

So my sources may then be accurate. As for the V8 it may rather be the 450 and not an F engine. Because I was told the would get the V8 revised to ~480 PS staying NA. Hope that is true.

To be fair, our 335i's are underrated (at the crank) to begin with. BMW says 300 HP/300 ft-lb torque even. If you look at what our cars put down at the wheels and then make reasonable assumptions about drivetrain loss, our 335i's are more like in the 320-330 HP range (crank).

Regarding this engine speculation, I think its not enough for Lexus to release a new car with the old engine. Lexus needs to start the IS on a fresh start. The Lexus IS is OLD, it was last completely redesign in 2005, almost 7 years?

I do understand Lexus did it with the new GS, it could have been a great chance to introduce a new transmission with their new 7-8 speed automatic transmission to go along with an improved V6 engine. Better power and efficiency, along with a better fuel economy in their respective segment. That's just my opinion.

If there is some credence in what you say, hope Lexus releases the engine right away and not wait until the mid cycle refresh which is another 3-4 years. It's competitors, lets say are BMW, Infiniti, Audi have upgraded their 6 cylinder engine arsenal with the BMW 3 Series I6 TwinPower Turbo, maybe Infiniti's G series will have something new with their V6 next year and Audi A4-A5 line have their supercharged V6.

Concept looks pretty good, but by the time the production version comes out it will be just another dull Lexus (LFA not included of course).

True that's some Lexus have been pretty dull with the obvious exception of their supercar and maybe the IS-F (up for debate), in terms of looks and driving characteristics.

One of the main problem has been over time Lexus haven't redefine what a Lexus is, it's ethos.

In terms of design, I think Lexus has hit something with that new spindle grill they have and they should apply some of that L-Finesse more actively in some of their products like the IS. That is the best platform that can take a chance on a more controversial design language. If Lexus applies the characteristics of the LF-CC concept into the IS line even though it will be toned down, they will have a winner.

In terms of driving characteristics, although the bechmark it seems of driving has been BMW. Lexus has to make cars exciting while remaining true to it's ethos (whatever or however they define it), don't make a Lexus drive like a BMW, make it drive like a lexus that's exciting while remaining true to it's ideology. I think that's what plague some car companies. Easier to say, but once they have defined what their ethos is and APPLY it. Lexus will take it's image to the next level.

I think the new GS is a decent looking car that can perform well. That's a start, and need to continue with the next IS line and whatever they have next in the pipeline.

Side by side comparison of actual 2014 IS sedan (not coupe) with the LF-CC concept -

Hard to make any speculations with the cover still on, though.
