Dinan stage 1 suspension

I'm specifically looking for opinions comparing the stock e92 suspension with the Dinan stage 1 springs.

Better? How so? Regrets?

Thanks in advance,
P

OP,

What exactly are you looking for out of a upgrade?

Its actually just a touch lower than a ZCP car

Thanks.

Stage 1 doesn't include the camber plates. Is that the difference between stage 1 and 2? How do you think that the camber plates add to the Dinan Stage 1 suspension mod? How have you used them?

I have learned that lowering the car can lead to initial understeer and exit oversteer. Any thoughts on those issues with the Dinan stage 1 suspension?

Any other issues, or is it just plain all good - lower, better handling, and more comfortable ride (sounds too good to be true!)?

Its the only way I can make it up my step driveway. I love my house like crazy but the driveway makes me want to sell it! Besides I'm not gonna have a choice when my GT3 RS arrives!

1. Looks: There is just too much of a gap between the top of the front wheel and the fender, IMO.

2. I used to drive a 996 Targa and a 997S and I am looking to regain some of that hunkered down, lower feel of the 911. I don't expect to ever feel as low as I felt in those cars, but I would like to try to get at least part of the way there.

3. Better cornering due to lower ctr of gravity.

On the other hand, I don't want to compromise the great handling of the e92 stock suspension, or have any regrets.

And, my e92 is brand new and I like the idea of Dinan because of warranty issues. Plus, my dealer is on official Dianan dealer, making mods all the more easy for me.

Does that help?

Thanks, SS.

Rather than contact Dinan at this point, I'd still prefer to hear from folks who have experience with the stage 1 suspension mod.

Somehow, I think the Dinan reps will be biased ; )

Best,
P

I'm still not sure that the Dinan suspension is better than the kw sleeve kit.
Then there's the do it right side of me that says just do kw v3s

Dinan is over priced.

Predictable lame comment. The stage one suspension cost around $1K... hardly a big ticket item.
I was speaking in general on all items... This is a company that sells a carbon fiber tube and a air filter for $1000? just saying for $1200 as listed on their website its pricey for what is basically a spring kit.

I know what you mean. I went with the KW sleeve kit. Not trying to say the KW sleeve is better, but for $800 I think you just get more bang for the buck.

Dinan Stage 1 is a tad lower then a ZCP...at least when comparing an E90 to an E90. I don't have EDC with the Dinan stage 2. I can say it does feel better on the streets but is no better at the track.

A totally esoteric upgrade if you ask me. Which I'm OK with but really wanted more. The non-EDC shocks with the Dinan Stage 2 will DEFINITELY NOT stop me from going with a full coilover after the warranty is expired.

Thanks, bigjae1976. THat's exactly what I'm looking for.

Is it a hassle running so low, given driveways and speed bumps and ramps, or is it still high enough that its not a big deal?

I run a Dinan stage 1 on my E90. No problems with driveways, bumps or ramps, except those that are obviously too large or steep. I'm sure you've had lots of experience with the necessary slow/angled approaches in your previous cars. It's really not that much lower overall, unless you're planning a considerable splitter/lip of some sort. I have OEM splitters, and have no issues. However, I do not clear 95% of the curbs when parking (100% of those concrete parking blocks!), so one must be careful.

Others have commented on the ride/handling already.

I've scraped the undertray but its not a hassle. I should have clarified, the Dinan was about the same height in the front as a ZCP E90 but my car (the dinan Stage II) was a tad lower in the back.

I'll try and snap a pic this weekend, I'm meeting up with that guy again.

Thanks, Chowster.I too have the OEM CF splitters and spoiler, and I know how pricey they are, so I really don't want to damage them, but I'm prepared to be paranoid careful.

Regarding the Dinan exhaust, which one did you get, and how do you like it? How is it different from stock? Is it embarrassing to start your car at 6:30 in the neighbourhood?

I have the Dinan rear muffler section only. The catless midpipe was too much for me (not $, but smell and volume). The Dinan rear is perfect for MY exhaust mod criteria (likely a minority around here) - improved tone, ~20% more volume, Dinan warranty, wife- and kid-friendly, and no drone. I didn't want it to be over-the-top - it's my family car and daily driver.

Is it different from stock? Most definitely. Still absolutely love it one year later.

Is it loud? My wife says yes.

Have the neighbours complained? No.

Do I get stares from older neighbours? Yes.

Have the neighbours commented? Most definitely. Some time their morning routines based on my daily 7:51am departure from the cul de sac.

Is it embarrassing? Not at 7:51. I'd be much more concerned if I left at 5:30 or 6:00 every morning.

I won't comment on price - I have a feeling we share similar opinions on choosing Dinan products. Hope that helps.
