Except that the Z06 time was done by a pro and a team from GM whereas the 918 time was done by an amateur journalist. Not comparable at all.

I was wondering why he'd pop his head in a thread that has nothing related to Porsche in the title. But I should have known better

I just wanted to see the Z06 lose to a hellcat.

But I truly dislike when someone says, oh a team of GM engineerings and a pro driver set a lap record when the next comparable lap was done by some guy who earns a living writing for a magazine and doesn't have 10% of the skill of the pro driver so let's not compare apples to potatoes.

Straight line speed....we all know what happened when the hellcat tried to turn...

I hate these kinds of comparisions.

Jesus Christ man get off porches nuts, give credit where credit is due. We are comparing a million dollar car to a sub 100k car. The fact that it can even get close with different drivers is a great accomplishment in its own right. Will the Z06 beat the 918 in every circumstance of course not but the fact that is even competing is amazing in itself. Porsche is not the end all be all of cars and they make fantastic cars. Even though I own one I am not blind to the accomplishments of other manufacturers. Still don't understand why you don't own one of God's gift to cars.

Youy dislike everything anyone says unless it's comparing Porsche to the second coming of Jesus. You got pissed when I said I didn't like the matte black finish on a 918. It's like I slapped your first born or something

Just saying it's very very hard to ever take you seriously. It's like you have a search filter on for Porsche and magically pop up when someone even mentions the word Porsche anywhere in the forum.

Just know this: You aren't the Porsche fan here. Hell you don't even own one, whereas quite a few members here do.

There's a huge difference between a journalist driving one car and a pro driving another in terms of skill. A guy who can extract 100% versus a guy who may be able to extract 30%.
As far as price, doesn't mean a lot considering they will probably make what 20,000 Z06s or more vs 918 918's. And there is barely any technology in the Z06 in comparison to the 918. Just the CF monocoque is probably worth more than the Z06 itself. So the point of price is never really valid considering many factors.
I mean I'm sure the Z06 will come close to the P1 or LaFerrari with a pro driver vs a journalist too...doesnt mean those cars aren't worth their price.
I never said the Z06 wasn't a great accomplishment...but it still can't touch a viper based on what's been seen thus far...

I don't currently own a Porsche...but have owned several and am looking right now at buying another, but when you have a daughter who is in a car seat it makes it tough to drive a 911...or cayman S.

I have owned several Porsche's. My first was right after I graduated from getting my undergrad degree (also have a Master's degree). A little difficult when you have a daughter to drive a 2 seater or even a 911 with a car seat. May have another one soon though

It's a valid point. Not to take away the outstanding performance of the new Z06/07 but comparing a professionally driven run against a journalist run is apples and oranges. The Z06 won't keep up with a 918 when all things are equal. Again, the corvette is very impressive (sans the heat issues).

Judging by the number of S/C'd e9x m3s on this board, there are a ton of people obsessed with straight line performance.

I won't refute that, but I'm of the mentality that going FI upsets the balance of the car. To each his own, I guess.

Unless the car is engineered to be forced induction.

Using your mentality, the new m3/m4 has poor balance as well.

Correct, unless engineered to be FI. The F8x m3/m4, C7 Z06, GTR, etc. don't apply

Wow, your post just gave me a reality check. Almost EVERY SINGLE high performance car out there is forced induction. Its almost sad... By 2020 all consumer sports cars will most likely be forced induction

Sign of the times with increasing emissions regulations, but it's the only way to maintain the same level of performance that people are accustomed to with sports/performance cars.

Poor vette, seems like the driver is adhering to reduced rpm break-in period. Both are wicked fast cars.
