Do you like it more than your 991GTS? Contemplating a Viper or a GTS

You can't compare them. Completely different. The viper is way more intense the 991 is a great daily driver and can be crusied comfortably and quietly. The viper is louder, the engine noise in the cabin alone is a lot. I wrote this on my social media account the other day... Quick review - "Fucking Monster" is what my girlfriend referred to it as after a ride down sunset last night. This is by far the most intense, raw, exciting and aurally stimulating stock street car I have ever driven. Best steering on any American car I have felt, quick and responsive with good weight. But there is no doubt it is way too intense for 99% of people to daily drive. Undoubtedly American. The interior is beautifully done and well wrapped in leather. Best interior I've seen on an American car, far superior to the ZR1. But the ZR1 could be driven by a grandma and was actually a very easy daily driver. I burned myself 3 times on the side exhaust the first day. You really have to watch your legs getting out as the whole side gets hot. And on that note I love it and love what the car stands for. It's an absolute animal." |

Fiat Chrysler will end production of the Dodge Viper in 2017.
http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars...-ends-in-2017/ That's a shame. Definitely a worthy consideration, even before the unfortunate announcement.

i honestly believe if the viper could be more tame, people would buy it. quite frankly i think most are scared of it.
but that is what makes it what it is. and i respect that. it's sad to hear they are coming to an end. it's a true drivers car. i also believe their value (at least the ones now) will hold their value or go up in the future. unlike 98% of the rest of the automobiles on the road. we'll see. i definitely will be looking into one after my next car |

TKS - you getting use to it yet? Still think its too raw for 99% of people?
I'd probably disagree with that statement -which further fuels the stereotype that it's too 'raw' and undriveable. I think Gen 5's are quite docile... You're DDing yours, so what's the update? |

It is an inherent design of the car (side-exhaust) but I don't think that deserves the "raw" and "undriveable" description. I do 'get it' to a degree, but my justification for thinking that is because avoiding burning your leg getting in and out is still not as difficult as it is to get in/out of a McLaren 12C.

^Billy you're right. Here's what happened with me: the car arrived and it looked magnificent in person. I started driving and wasn't used to the longer hood and a couple other little things, I did think shit did I make a mistake selling my Porsche which I was accustomed to. It was dead silent and solid. The viper does have some creaks over uneven surfice/comin up driveway at an angle but nothing major at all. Turning be car on at 530am when I wake up it was louder and I was thinking am I pissing of the people in my building.
I went on a trip for 5 days and came back. It was like m my clock reset. And I love the damn thing. So I think it was just driving them back to back that made me think that. I don't even notice the side exhaust anymore, the stereo is better than my Porsche (base stereo) and the entertainment dash system. It is fine as a daily for me, more than. For many I think not but for many I know they don't think a Porsche is which is hysterical cause I think it's so comfy, was like driving and e class around to me. Obviously everyone has different levels of what they are ok with but you are right. I love the car. |

I was pumped and I only did 1 session and had to go (first time tracking it). So no time learning the car. No doubt I'll run a 1:27 next time or soon. Messed up turn 1 big time taking it a 75mph. Lol. The car is a monster on track. Holding turn 8 at 134-136. So intense and fun. |
