Battery change. What happens to coding?

When I bought my M back in April, it was already coded (mirrors, DVD, euro hazards, etc). Being that its a 2011 and I am still on the original battery, I figured I would take advantage of my extended warranty (yes it covers the car battery. I was surprised too).

Im assuming all the coding will be erased from replacing the battery, because I think BMW reprograms the software. Can anyone confirm this?

That's a no. They should just register the battery and that's it.

There shouldn't a reason to reprogram the other modules. You can check with your service advisor to confirm.

I did t mean they actually reprogram the modules, but on most cars (at least my previous cars). Disconnecting the battery is essentially a reset for the car. I didn't know if this was would wipe out the coding. I do think they program something though. I will find out when I pick it up later.

Coding will not be reset. If you unplug the battery on your car it resets your cluster meaning MPG, miles driven since reset, clock etc is all reset but your actual coding is not touched. They do not reprogram anything either, since they'll most likely replace it with the same spec battery already in your car, all they need to do is register it. If it was a different type of battery being installed then they'd need to register/reprogram it with different variables with different AH or AGM to non AGM. But even then, coding options are not touched or erased. At most, your adaptations will be reset.

Thanks for the explanation. Just got the car back and coding is still there.
