Not a big deal... All it might indicate would be slight differences between cylinders. Journal diameters, final rod bore shape (distortion) or size, or even ring sealing quality might influence the degree of wear over the life of the bearings.

Sorry for the cross-post, as I had also done this on the main forum...but thought I'd share here on the RB thread:
Quote:
See below for my blackstone. Bought the car (am 2nd owner) at 82K mi. Did the first oil change and lead showed high (26ppm) and got the usual from Blackstone (did you use fuel booster, etc). Of course having bought it used, had no idea. In any event, as you can see from the Blackstone, the lead dropped down to lower levels and Copper has been relatively low all the time. The spike in nickel I saw a few oil changes ago, am wondering if this was the nickel dam on the bearings (5 mil nickel layer sandwiched between the lead and copper layer). Can anyone confirm of 088/089 have the Clevite nickel dam? https://www.mahle-aftermarket.com/na...gine-bearings/Our line of Clevite® heavy duty engine bearings includes rod, main, and cam bearings. All but our cam bearings are made with the legendary Clevite® TriMetal™ CL-112 material. Clevite® cam bearings are precision bored to eliminate the need for machining after installation. This exclusive bearing design features a steel backing for support, a cast-copper lead alloy center for strength and durability, nickel dam for chemical stability, and an electroplated white metal babbitt overlay for slipperiness, conformability and embedability. The intermediate cast-copper lead layer creates and interlocked columnar structure capable of withstanding much heavier pulsating loads than any other bearing design. |

Couldnt wait
Checking in 2008 e92 with 58k miles and original owner. Never tracked or abused. The lowers have a very weird signs of wear (on the left) and uppers (right) were in serious condition.
Got them done along with engine mounts at EuroMpire in NC. Feeling relieved I took the plunge. |

Got my ACL HX Trimetal Race RB's and new OEM bolts installed, sorry didn't get the original shells labelled...
Only one had a very slight hint of copper showing on the edge (tried to show it in the angled photo), all I know is that came out of Cylinder #7. 102k KMs/63k Miles. |

2008 e90 with 78k miles replaced with BE's in May 2018 by German Motorworks in Nashville, TN. Great shop by the way!
Mine had some unusual wear on the bottoms in particular. I'm also adding pics of my stock mounts which were starting to separate that were replaced at the same time. I am the 2nd owner and had just bought the car and parked it until I got this done a week later. Glad I did it! Thank you to everyone on the forum who have brought this very real issue to light. Just had mine done @ Bimmer Performance Center in Raleigh. 2008 E90 with 75k miles. Had the mounts done at the same time. Replaced w/ BE bearings. Glad to be done with it. I know it's all in my head, but the peace of mind now when I'm driving it is loads better.
EDIT - Just got the Blackstone report back - added in case anyone's interested. Last edited by sv848evo; 08-01-2018 at 09:05 AM.. |

Not sure you're being fair to yourself when saying it was all in your head. That one bearing could have gone at any moment and that engine mount is beyond toast!

So finally done!
2011.5. 38k miles. 5k 10W60 change. Crazy careful with warm up since I bought it at 11.5k miles. Seemed to be very well looked after also at that point but who knows. Shells as hoped for, no crazy wear, would probably been fine for plenty more miles but wanted to have it done/limit risk so very happy. Shop guessed the spots is coming from long stand still which was the case before I bought it. I DD since 4.5 years. Replaced with ACL Race bearings (HX, increased clearance) and ARP 625s. |

Good to know that with proper care even oem bearings are good for probably at least 50-60k. Which brand oil did you use? Here are mine for comparison.

Thought it was BS but the engine actually sound smoother, less tickelitack. The one thing that bugs me is that it all of a sudden seemed to drink some oil which it never done before. Added a separate thread on that (https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1517678). Ps. Strokey, been using Castrol and Shell lately. All 10W60. |

I just saw your thread about your oil consumption after your bearing replacement and replied in # 4 => https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1517678

anybody have pics of BE bearings pulled after a few thousands of miles on 10w60?
it might not be a bad idea compiling a thread with examples of all pulled replaced bearings for sakes of comparison (WPC, BE, vac, etc.) |
