Should I back off from buying m3?

Like others have said, a good set of snow tires and you'll be fine. I would go for it.

As long as they don't let the snow get so deep your lower air dam becomes a snow plow you'll be OK. As other said get some good snow tires. I've run in 1-2" of snow and ice with 19" summer stock (PS2s) tires and Thule Summit K34 (? need to go look at the model number) snow chains (they're not chains by any means and the only thing that will clear the 19" setup without scratching your wheels. Get a set of these with good snows and again as long as your undercarriage clears the snow you'll be unstoppable.

On the other hand if you want to keep the M in the garage during winter buy a beater AWD Subaru (one of the more popular cars in VT.)

Easy. Get the M3. If necessary, get a cheap used F150 for snow. You probably won't need it.

But I'm still in Massachusetts, and I bought an M3 yesterday

It's LeMans Blue, black interior, blue-gray brushed alum trim, 2011 17000 miles. I'll post the pics later.
