Center Support Bearing/Guibo?

I had a post a while ago about a clunk but seems to have evolved into a pinging noise on take off that I see people pointing to Center support bearing/Guibo issues. The Guibo does seem to be showing wear around the bolts. The noise in the video I posted is 100% what im hearing. will replacing the guibo and CSB fix this?

Thoughts?

just replace the guibo and csb together, making sure they grease the splines before reassembly.

price difference vs. a new driveshaft makes it worth to try.

fixed mine 100%

Yea ive followed a couple threads on here. I wish more people followed up with what the actual fix was since it seems so varied. I've seen guibo, CSB, CV joint, the nut in the middle, greasing the splines, packing the CV with more grease, to just outright "you must replace the entire drive shaft"

I've put a pry bar in the ujoint and tried to wiggle it but I don't wanna go to nuts on it. the u joint seems in good shape, no play or movement so i've ordered the CSB and flex disc and will report back I guess.

Awesome thanks. parts are on the way. When you replaced yours did you reuse the shim and snap ring? one kit I saw from ECS had new ones but the one from turner had everything but the snap ring and shim. I threw them in my cart just to be safe for an extra 13 bucks. A lot of vids on line don't even mention them.

So everything is back together. Seems like theres still a little bit of noise but not near what it was. Maybe the little bit of noise I hear now, thats more or a dull thud, is just something I never noticed before. I think the culprit might have been the guibo it looked a little rough with lots of wear around one of the holes on the driveshaft side which would make sense with the noise. CSB was actually in decent shape but replaced anyway.

Now heres just hoping my driveshaft doesn't come flying out on the highway one day

A dull thud when it has an initial load on the rear diff I find is pretty common/border line normal. The cowbell noise is what drove me crazy, which sounds like it’s gone.

Just got the car out of the shop in an attempt to remove the driveshaft "clunk" by replacing the CSB. Upon inspection, the CSB was perfectly fine (also replaced Guibo 5k miles ago). It seems the U-Joint is the issue, which is not serviceable. This likely means new driveshaft. The good news is there are options:

- Turner Motorsport (see here) has a remanufactured version (via Turner, ECSTuning etc.) for about $1,100. The benefit of this version is it allows for future replacements of the U-Joint's (i.e. you run into this issue again, you can service the U-Joint and not replace the entire unit).

- Dorman (see here) also provides a new OEM replacement unit for $600 - a much more cost effective option.

- Carbon Fiber options, although I believe most of these will add some harmonic vibration (could be wrong).

- Driveshaft Specialist of Texas - remanufactured (see here)

- Driveshaft Pro (see here)

noremaC Yea even though my issue seems fixed I think knowing what I know now I would've gone with the turner after market and replaced the entire thing. I think after core charge they're only $900. seems like for another 500 over the CSB/Guibo and other parts its worth it.

Reviving an old thread. My car for a while has had a mystery whirring sound that starts around 40mph and fades out at around 50. If I lightly play with the throttle while driving, I can hearing a stutter as if there is play in a bearing. At first I thought it was a wheel bearing, so all four were replaced but it didn't solve the issue (but I did have play in one of those bearings, so it needed replacing anyway).

I haven't found any answers to my questions on here yet, but I have heard the cowbell sound that has been referenced here on a handful of occasions while accelerating from a stop, and I've also heard a squeaking/ticking sound a handful of times over the last month as well. I'm hoping this thread may have found my issue.

Going to purchase CSB and Guibo and will report back whether that solves my issue or not.
