Had the same issue, did a search on Ebay, found this for $5, bought and it worked perfectly. Like buying a whole new badge.

I’m looking for a new decal/sticker to replace my e90 M3 faded one. Do the older model stickers fit or do they need to be cut to fit?

All you need to do is buy a new emblem. Add PPF layer on top of the stripes and it will never fade, and if you polish the trunk it won't burn up the emblem if you don't do the prep-work.
