Can helicopter pull me over for overspeed???
Title says it all. Just the chopper. No ground trooper to consummate the stop. Thoughts?
I would think you could potentially still get a ticket from one in the mail, but I saw one fly overhead today when I was doing 15 over but I wasn't weaving or anything and i was never subsequently stopped. I'm just curious if I have something pleasant headed my way in the mail. I recognize this is based on jurisdiction, but curious to know if others have received a ticket this way. BTW, this is another reason to opt against CF roof. Blatantly obvious from above that it's an E92 M3... Also, can a higher end radar detector pick up a police aircraft, or do they just use measurement to obtain speed? Thanks.

Haha - Not saying I would give mine up either. But if you're on the fence about CF roof, that's yet another argument against it.

Well, yeah, I guess if you had a steel roof they could pull you up with the big magnet, but with the CF roof there's nothing for the magnet to stick onto?

just call your local air traffic control and ask if any police choppers are in the area. they will most certainly oblige.

A helo probably can't see your tag and he can't use radar on you unless he drops down right on the road. No, you have nothing to worry about but watch out for this guy:

Those signs are a joke. In fact there's a about a 1 mile section down past exit 89 on the GSP that is supposedly "monitored" by aircraft. It's not a well known fact but those signs are only there to scare novice drivers.

They usually don't use radar, but instead known marks on the road, measure your time over the distance and then radio to a car/cycle ahead of you to pull you over.
Either they didn't notice you before you entered the timed section, were already timing somebody else, or maybe they were doing something more useful, like following a suspect from a real crime.

Radar detectors don't warn of aircraft enforcement. However, there are portable TCAS units that do work. Look up portable (also personal) TCAS.
Never heard of a helo pulling over someone by themselves. They usually work by radioing other LEOs on the ground. Here is one tip but make sure you really want to do this before doing it -- it may piss off the cops: the cop that gives you a ticket is the one that is supposed to have measured your speed. If you use this argument with a cop that has pulled you over as a result of aircraft enforcement then you might just end up having the helo land right next to you for the pilot to sign the ticket. A better strategy may be to go to court and use this argument in the courtroom. CAVEAT: This may or may not be true in your state. Cheers.

Well, given the current weight of the M3, I think it will pull the chopper down

Oh come on, seriously?? If you are, My5SUV is correct. There's no radar in the skies (much like there aren't any aliens sending down radar waves to control our minds) and the officer(s) above use the road markings to calculate speed which is relayed to the officer(s) below who write the ticket. BOTH are required in court if you choose to fight it.
