Is this sound normal?

Hey guys!

New owner here...only 500 miles driven so far on my 2011 E93 M3.

I've been digging around on the forums trying to find a similar topic to no success (even YouTube). There's a loud winding noise that appears to be coming from my transmission. Not sure if this is normal. Please listen to the clip.

Let me know your thoughts. Man, the winding is just so loud and this is after the car was fully warmed up. I drove about 45 minutes and the temperature was 30 degrees F outside.

May not be the culprit, but check the power steering fluid level. It solved my roaring sound on my 2011 e90.

lol!

It was the power steering. Ran to the store and got some CHF-11S PS fluid. Winding noise appears to be gone.

I need to get used to this car, it just seemed odd that the winding noise got louder as I accelerated. Most cars I've had in the past just made the winding noise when turning the steering wheel.

I'll keep an eye on the fluid and take it to the dealer if it gets low again. It concerns me since I just bought it a little over 2 weeks ago.

Mine was a 2011 also. Loud crazy noise but every time I got to the dealership, it was gone. I'm sure they thought I was crazy. I think it went away because the car warmed up. Figured it from searching the forums. I was SO relieved once I figured it out.
