What E92 M3 would $30k get me?
Looking into buying an E92 M3 and want to spend around $30k (plus taxes etc.). Was wondering what that would get me, as I've had some trouble finding good "sold" prices recently.
Ideally, I'd want a 2011+ with under 50k miles, and from what I've seen this is possible but may take awhile to find. I'd also like a Competition model if possible, but was wondering what condition an E92 Comp would be in for $30k (what year and mileage). Thanks. |

I think you're in the range, but I think you're asking too much to expect a 11+ Comp AND a car in good condition in that price range. (Especially if you have a transmission or color preference).
I think if you start looking for cars closer to 60-70K mi, but something that has been well maintained you will be in the zone. Overall maintenence and owner care is better than just absolute mileage. If you want to stay under that price range, you may need to look at non-comp LCI cars like '09 or '10's then you should be able to find a clean example and still have some extra cash left over for M359's. I found a '11 E90 Comp with 55k for $29 but it was absolutely trashed. Would've needed almost a complete respray, wheels were heavily curbed, trunk carpets were stained, owner clearly just drove the piss out of it and that was it.

Spring 2019 bought mine for $30k. 2011.75 coupe DCT comp, alpineweiss over extended fox red, carbon roof, mperf exhaust, dinan tunes, KW HAS, new PS4s, carbon whiskers and spoiler, 45k miles. Paint needed medium correction, no dents or scratches, interior excellent.
Actuators went in the first month, spark plugs, brakes have been done, either was not impressed at all with EDC paired with KW HAS or it was worn so it's on Ohlins now, rod bearings not done yet. So if you get a similar car to mine, plan on having cash on hand post purchase for "stuff." |

Yeah I knew a comp may be pushing it , I'd prefer a sub 50k mile non-comp 2011+ to a more beat on comp of the same year. Do you still think a sub 50k mile 2011+ non-comp thats mostly stock is doable for around $30k? I'm also leaning towards the DCT which I think keeps the price down.
Also what are the cheapest/most expensive non-special color options? |

Yes I think you're in the price range. White/black are generally the cheapest, silverstone/gray are usually in the middle and blues/reds are the most rare.
Similarly sometimes finding a sunroof car will give you a bit more bargaining room, enthusiasts usually are desperate to hunt out CF roof examples.

You look everywhere and as often as humanly possible if you really want to get what you are looking for. Cars.com, autotrader, auction sites, FB marketplace, and absolutely the Craig. Find someone which is either / both not good at selling cars or doesn't want to put in the legwork. Point is you have to put in the effort. I snagged a mint low mileage e46 M3 by calling EAG and asked if they had any SMGs that they recently passed on buying. Be creative.

I was lucky that someone posted the car I bought here because it went up on a Saturday and I was enjoying my weekend instead of car hunting. I had to give the dealer a deposit sight unseen or take a chance on losing it. Also keep in mind asking price isn't necessarily what they'll take, so if you find a car listed in the low to mid-30's you may be able to get the buyer down. Ex: Here's a 6MT Comp with a sunroof: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto...179388756.html
