New or Used

With the current economic situation, I wanted to ask this question. If you could would you buy a new M3 or if you could find something that you like buy a used M3. 08, 09. I have seen a sweet 08 sedan that I really like from Merc Dealer has 8k miles and is only 47k. I know the idrive is supposedly better in the 09 model. What do you guys think....?? I'm just ready to get my M3 is all...

Mate, if you're happy then get it. In the end - used is really better with these cars... I totally understand when it comes to this car... I sooo can't wait to get my ///M.... oh well.... 126 days to go...

I ordered mine to get exactly what I wanted, but for the most part used M3s in Canada were totally packaged up and just about as expensive as the one I ordered. In the US you can pretty much find exactly what you want used.

At the end of the day if you want a virgin you have to pay up, if she's already broken in she'll be more fun when you get her, but you'll never know if she's been abused.

(7-10 days before mine arrives, getting off the ship right now!)

I purchased a very low mileage Porsche Boxster S a couple of years ago. I quickly regretted the decision because the car didn't have the exact options, colors etc... that I would have gotten if I ordered it. Yes, I saved money but it wasn't really the perfect car.

So when I decided to get an M3 (with the expectation to keep it a long time), I wanted to make sure I got exactly what I want, so I ordered new. Couldn't be happier, she is perfect If you are going to spend alot of money on a car, get what you want. If a used example comes up that is very close to what you would order, go for it. Otherwise, go new.

I got lucky and pretty much found the exact car I wanted used. Low miles and I saved about 20 grand. Very happy with my decision.

I got lucky when I bought my car too. I found one fully loaded with moonroof, Sycamore, and Space Grey in colour, just how I wanted it! The car had 1200km/800miles and I saved 10 grand!

The savings is there so why not, its not like the car still doesnt have a warranty

09' iDrive is awesome, but 08' is just fine and I really could live without either

IMHO, it's all to do with your priorities and what you intend to do with the car.

Like many have said, it's gonna be hard to find THE car if you have one in mind with a somewhat rarer combination like... I don't know... SSII + FR in an E93. But if you are lucky to find one that fits you then that's great. It's a little better, I think, with M3's than Porsches simply because the options list on Porches are so long and different combinations can have totally different look and feel.

If options are not so important to you then it's a substantial saving. And you can always spend it on mods...

Obviously, if you just wanna track the car, then you wouldn't worry too much about what trim it has etc.

For me, it's a significant investment, so I very much prefer to get exactly what I want.

I wouldn't let the difference between 08' or 09' iDrive sway your decision either. Indeed, 09' iDrive is awesome as I got to try it out on a loaner 335d, but it's not that much better than 08' (okay maybe the graphics and maps) but 08' is fine too.

I would go new... just because i had bad experiance with used cars in the past. But if the $ is a struggle for you of course go used. Make sure you get a pro to check the car out for you first to make sure it's good.

"M3 drivers have no friends" <--- what is that suppose to mean?
