Exclamation Does using Sport or Sport Extra mode affect TA's

Greetings,

I read a post the other day that referenced there's a possible connection with throttle actuators and the M mode set to Sport or Sport Extra.

Does having Sport of Sport Extra make the TA's work harder or something?

Thanks,
Merlin

The throttle response is increased, so the TAs are turning slightly faster than they otherwise would.

The connection between the two is moot. Some drive in sport all the time, some never.

They wear out because of the crap plastic gears BMW used (and the mosfets overheat).

I've replaced them many times in both my E9x cars and for friends. We all have different driving habits, but the TAs all suffered the same fate. The mileage spectrum in which they fail is quite wide. My first 08 needed them at 41k miles. My second was good until 111k.

Drive in whatever modes you want and replace them when it happens.

The actuators provide greater angular acceleration to the throttles in sport mode via greater force. It appears that the actuator components that fail are operating well above their fatigue limits, so it seems reasonable to think that sport/+ would speed things up.

The failures are wear, please link any information that suggests it is fatigue. If fatigue was the cause there would be broken teeth.

The mosfets are the actual failure point.
