eh, seems to be the 08s really. Mine has been an issue for probably 1.5 years, just started screwing up enough that I decided to take care of it!

So far I've only had the ICV go. I bet those damn actuators are next! 12/07 build here.

Glad it fixed the problem for you!

Yay for $250 detuctable (CarMax - 6 yr; 125k mi) since the labor and parts was going to be just north of $1800.
Haha $1800. What a joke.
Glad you have your baby back though!

Nothing recent about it at all.... these cars have had the same issue for a while.

Yeah, if worse came to worse and my warranty didn't cover it because I have modified my car, I would have just bought the part and done it myself (using the DIY, seemed pretty easy).

Definitely glad to have it back. Riding my bicycle to work in rain / thunderstorms was no bueno (and dumb)!

I've had it all happen my friend... Have had customers with laptops that died in the middle, people that accidentally knocked the cable out during programming, people that try flashing with the ignition off...

Haven't run across one that I couldn't recover remotely yet.

Dr. Benvo will always make sure the ECU is happy in the end

Great...I have come across some wierd things though when coding and something happens in the middle. Some very wierd thing (not on ECUs and such, programs for my job, even excel). That is the basis of my concern as my work is very preliminary stuff, not a robust program that you sell.

Oh the joys...I did have a good laugh with someone trying to tune with the ignition off though!

I recently experienced a misfire on cylinder 5 which threw my car into limp mode. That was the only code and replacing the plugs seems to have resolved the problem. This occurred with about 36,500 miles.

If the plugs were never replaced you should certainly replace all of them.

I've never had a misfire code on my car in ~50K miles (*knocks on wood*).

Edit: Actually, after the 240E flash (the week it came out), it misfired at idle once and the ICV was replaced shortly after.

Actuators and ICV's will ususally cause misfires, but with those in good operating order, a misfire is not a bad scenario because it points to something more serious (such as a bad plug, coil, grounding issue, or actual engine hardware problem).

Yes, they were never replaced so I changed all of them. My misfire occurred at around 8000 rpm under WOT when I shifted. I knew the plugs needed to be changed, so really just my own laziness to blame. I figured I might be able to squeak it out for a few weeks, but there is a reason why bmw states they need to be changed at 37k

BTW, I haven't discussed anything with you yet, but am looking forward to purchasing your tune along with dct software and coding in the near future

Did you buy the car from CarMax? Is that how you were eligible to purchase the CarMax extended warranty? What was the cost of the extended warranty and do they offer it to everyone or just the people purchasing vehicles from them? My 2009 M3 DCT goes out of factory warranty in July 2013. Thanks.

I did buy the car at CarMax...best price around that I could find for the mileage. I am pretty sure you have to buy a car from them to get that warranty, don't think it is offered to everyone. The cost was around 2500 I think - 6 years or 125,000 miles. Includes all mechanical and electricle, however it doesn't cover wearables like brakes etc...

Do you have to have the car serviced at carmax or can you go to an Indy or bimmer?

Well for the Throttle Valve Actuator, they said they couldn't do it because the don't have the correct tooling (I am guessing the software to reprogram the car). So they had me take it over to the stealership and I got a BMW loaner car. Anything that needs programming will be taken to the stealership, simple tasks will be done at Carmax (rather I will do them myself actually).

Just posting to say thank goodness for forums. Car went into limp mode on track today... Looks like throttle actuators, this thread has almost identical codes so I think it's definitely that!

Question Geez...still struggling w/Misfires & LM

Original owner with no tracking/'abuse'; 69K.

Still struggling with misfires [mostly bank 2]; LM regular and recurring.

I've replaced/repaired virtually all the 'usual suspects' [except fuel pressure sensor]. Even reverted to OE map to isolate AM tuning.

Current state/indicators.

...any thoughts?

Mine was fixed by a $50 exhaust gasket in the end... had the exact same codes you've put up.

Mine happened right after I changed valve cover gasket which makes me think if they messed up…
