I have a Dinan intake and Stage 1 (Alpine) tune. I could go catless and get stage 2 but I don't track it, at least not yet. Also don't want to smell like gasoline when I get out of my car.
I'm running MPE + test pipes without resonators on an OEM x-pipe with the Alpine Stage 2 tune and love it. I too was worried about smell going full catless so I left the OEM secondary cats in and haven't had any issues. I've been told that you can smell my car a bit following directly behind if I'm driving aggressively though.

From what I have read, the sound will change and become raspy. The only setup I've heard over YouTube that retains the character of the MPE while adding volume is the video with the AA xpipe with OEM cats in the primary position. Even Once 100 cell AA HFCs were added, the raspiness started becoming more pronounced but to me it not as bad as the others.

Your talking catless so I'd expect it to be what many folks dread!

FWIW here is what my car sounds like with an external mic placed next to the license plate.

It does have a slight rasp at higher rpms but it's all personal preference.

I don't have any of my own videos shot from a distance, but this is a pretty good representation of the real-life sound with test pipes + MPE. Without resonators I'd say mine is maybe 10% louder with a touch more rasp.

Just curious if I am missing something - is the video still around?
