Autosolutions SSK Options
Hi everyone,
I am planning on upgrading to an Autosolutions SSK. I was wondering if anyone has done this upgrade and what % reduction ratio you went with. I am planning on going with 25% reduction and keeping stock shifter height as I will be upgrading to the M5 knob which is lower by default. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance. The Autosolutions SSK is clearly the best option. It already happened in the E46M and continues to be the case in the E9x
I went with 10% as I also went with the M5 knob and I'm really more interested in a more mechanical, precise feel than in shortening the shift length. I had this shifter in my E46M for 100k miles and it was endless joy and happiness. It's been on my E9X for 30k miles and it's also great there. On the E9X I suggest you pair it with the Ultimate Clutch Pedal for maximum enjoyment |

Doesn't he recommend 15-17% reduction?
25% seems like a lot. .

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

To each their own.
If you are rowing the boat in stop and go traffic every day, likely best to stick to 15% ish. If you are Sunday-Funday driving your car, then 25% would really be a lot of fun. I ordered a 17% reduction and I also plan to put on a ZHP or F10 M5 knob at some time. Here is hoping it is awesome. Cheers,

Just installed a 15%. I love it. I think you could go a bit higher without a substantial increase in effort. Taking the slop out if it has seemed to reduce the effort anyway. I feel like I have stock effort with MUCH better shifting feel and quality.

I want/NEED this upgrade ! Hopefully next year....getting tired of the rubbery/ratchety feel of the stock set-up, although it did improve with an trans oil change and new motor/trans mounts.

Or how about any comparisons to the Rogue kit? My car had the Rogue kit installed before I bought it, and while it's probably an improvement over stock I still find 2nd gear downshifts to be a bit cumbersome and the car doesn't glide into 2nd with the same ease as any of the other gears. Engine mounts were just replaced and the trans mounts look fine at 38k miles. My Z4M had a UUC SSK with upgraded engine/trans mounts and it actually behaved the same way, so I wonder how it is with the Autosolutions SSK on the M3. I read nothing but positive things about it so I keep asking myself if it's worth the switch.

I will be speaking with Ron on the phone today and placing my order. I will be going with a 15-20% reduction and stock shift height as I am already reducing it by getting the M5 knob. My review may be skewed however as I will also be installing the ultimate clutch pedal in conjunction with this upgrade.

I don't want to speak poorly of UUC or Rogue, but there have been polls throughout the years discussing this and the AS kit wins hands down. I haven't driven the UUC or Rogue kits so again, I can't say they're worse, but it seems like the internet is pretty unanimous that AS is the best thing since sliced bread The AutoSolutions kit (that came with the car) blew me away in the E46 that had 80k miles on it when I bought it and 180k when I sold it. In 2013 when I ordered my individual, 6MT E92 I was willing to ship it to him to get him to make a kit for the car. Fortunately one already existed by the time I got my E92 M3. Aaaand I'm excited now because I just got the paypal money request for the AutoSolutions shifter from my E46 330Ci 5MT which I keep in Barcelona!! Gonna install that this Christmas!!!

I have a 30% reduction with stock height. I also added his optional bushings . I love it and it’s doesnt feel too short to me and is super tight and precise. It is my weekend car though . I will say the shift being a solid design adds some transmission noise to the interior but I don’t mind it . I also have BimmerWorld engine mounts so I don’t know if that makes a difference for shifter noise or not sense I did it at the same time with rod bearings .

So I am going with a 20% reduction and stock height after speaking with Ronald. When you say you get transmission noise what do you mean? A slight pinging? This is the only thing i am on the fence about, really dont want to add any noise.

I think there's a reason they come gooey from the factory.. lots of soft rubber bush to isolate the vibrations that come from the sweet drivetrain.. to make the shifter more precise you have to start hard mounting stuff with stiffer components. I have Turners and it's borderline unbearable with the Rally lever.. gets too annoying. I think if you use the stock lever which has the rubber isolation section it would help a lot.. does Ronald's use the stock lever or include a new one?

I'd also be in for a group buy for the shifter from Auto solutions.

So I placed my order. Ronald is about 70 shifters or so behind, the earliest we could get a group buy together is January. I am happy to help get it setup and work with Ronald but it will be a bit of wait. TY

I'd be interested in a group buy for an AS SSK as well. Seems like it's well worth the wait.

I'll definitely be interested in joining the group buy as well. I currently have a modified Rogue kit that is starting to develop some slop. I would for sure enjoy one with a shorter throw, lower, and provide a more solid feel to it. Thanks.
