The Houston ///M Club had their first Dyno Day at MSR Houston, sponsored by M-World. We had a total of four E9X M3s having dynos done. Ambient temperature was around 51 F and humidity at 40%. All dynos were done on a DynoJet. All cars were running 93 octane. The numbers shown are all SAE corrected.

Here are the dyno runs in order by ascending power:

2008 M3 E92 - DCT

One thing to add us that for whatever reason, on the 09 m3, the 5th gear pull (not shown) made 341 whp and 260 wtq. The 4th gear pulls (shown above) made less power.

Oddly on the 5th gear pulls (run prior to 4th gear pulls), the power peaked at 7500 rpm and remained flat to redline.

Thanks for the hard work frank, and thanks to Richard at m world for setting this up!

KennyPowers: I never got the 5th gear pull image from our tech.

This is pretty good data for all of us. We had the 2008 E92 car dyno with us to provide a baseline to compare with the other three modded cars. Of course, everyone was expecting to make more power than the actual results (well at least the two Dinan cars thought so). But it's good to know that since the two Dinan cars basically had the same exact power mods (with exception of type of air filter brand), the two cars were only separated by 3 whp.

Definitely right! Great info to have and glad everyone was able to make it! Hope it won't be so cold next time!

Beautiful car btw. The gts wheels look great on your e90!

Also can't wait to see the vid of Richards skid pad run. That was fun!

Had a blast you guys. One thing to note about both Dinan cars......they made continuous power all the way up the band. And only a 3HP difference in the two cars. I would call that good work on Dinan's part. The skid pad was also a good time. Thanks for setting this up Richard and Frank for the great camera work...............Phil

Did the stock car make the most Torque? Looks like the Dinan cars lost torque if the stock car is considered the baseline and all cars being equal from the factory.

Yeah that seems to be the trend. All the modded cars are catless so that could be some of it there. So one thing we were definitely able to conclude is that an axle back exhaust does absolutely nothing for the HP gene. The stock car had almost the same numbers prior to removing the Akra axle back. It seems like the Dinan combination we both have sacrificed torque for power. I my case that's ok.....blip down one more gear and who says there's no torque .......Phil

The white 09 e90 made the most tq during both 5th gear runs. 261 wtq SAE corrected.

More torque makes you feel like you are going faster. But more HP actually makes you go faster.

Phil, you're right. The E90 with full Dinan exhaust does sound different than the E92 with full Dinan exhaust. It sounds like the E90 is more of a growling type sound and rougher at lower RPMs. Strange. Up top, though, they sound the same to me.

Here is the file from the 09 e90's 5th gear dyno pulls. These were done immediately before the 4th gear pulls. The highlight in blue is an area of slight concern as the power flattens and drops off from somewhere between 7000 rpm and redline. This trend was not observed in any other cars that dyno'd yesterday.

A separate thread with more information will be created as we delve deeper into figuring out what is going on with this car. For comparisons sake, an annotated dyno of Franks car is also posted. You can see that his car pulls much stronger through the upper RPMs and smoothly pulls to redline.

Mine is listed first, then franks to follow. Both runs are SAE corrected.

Well we can eliminate the AA Green Filter as the culprit, since all air filters have the same performance gains (zero lol). So it's gotta be your Turner test pipe or Evolve tune. It'd be interesting to see your chart once you go with the ESS tune.

I think Mark is making torque with the test pipes. But it will be interesting to see the numbers after he gets the new tune. And yes the exhaust do sound different....I really noticed it when I was doing my run. You're right it's on the low end where you hear it ............Phil

If you see a torque dip after installing HFCs or going catless the likely culprit is the tune or lack of tune. I added a Fabspeed xpipe w/HFCs to my bone stock M3 and I had a tq dip at around mid rpms. When I added the Powerchip tune the tq dip was removed.

Based on my experience adding a catback exhaust, after market filter, or aftermarket pulley provides zero power gains I’ve been diligent with before and after dyno’s for each mod I've added and the RDSport Exhaust, Akra exhaust, AA pulley, and MS filter gave me no hp or tq benefit.

Other than a supercharger, the only bolt-on part that seems to guarantee power is cat removal.

I went down to Houston 3 weeks ago and spotted an X6M that had plates that said something along the lines of "M Club"...

Cars look nice

well said

I should have the DRF files to evolve today or tomorrow and they will try to see what is going on up top on my car and hopefully can sort it out.

The car made the most power up to 7k, but had an epic fail above 7k rpm.

I am still jealous of your supercharger

If you get the ESS tune your tourque dip should be resolved. If you want the supercharger, it's coming off the car next week
