TPMS indicator yellow

Hi Everyone,

Just noticed that my cars TPMS light came on yellow.

I am pretty sure that the last time I parked the car in the garage, the TPMS was all green. I started the car today and the TPMS went on yellow on the back left wheel. Not sure what to make of it, but I am thinking of calling the dealer tomorrow. Does this kind of this happen often? Anyone can enter the garage, so I am not sure if this is indicative of some kind of tampering.

Been 3 weeks since I got my car. I checked the wheel, but did not find anything that was obviously amiss.

^ Seriously. Check the pressure and if it is below the norm, fill air, if not, then don't. If this definition of garage is just an overhang, then the cold weather might be to blame. If it is because of cold weather, drive on it for 15 minutes and it will go away.

Just checking, this post wasn't a joke, right?

No, wasn't a joke. I went downstairs now and checked the pressure. It was around 15 PSI ... yikes! I also found a nail in the rear tire! Looks like I will be visiting the dealer tomorrow.

Any idea how much time this takes at the dealer? Is there any tire warranty (as standard) etc.? I guess not?

Interestingly, looks like the TPMS did not come on when I parked my car because the tire hadn't lost too much air. But overnight, it looks like it leaked quite a bit ...

No stardard tire warranty for us in Canada. BMW also has a policy that they don't patch tires, they just give you a new one. I got tire protection on my old BMW (run flats) and replaced 4 tires in 3 years. Out of pocket it would cost ~300 each. However that being said, each time I got a new tire, the car would jerk on worn out pavement groves. The thread was uneven and this I didn't like. With my M3, I opted for no protection, so far, 1 screw in 11 months. I just patched it for $20 and forgot about it. I think I will go through tires faster than I pick up screws.

Back to the yellow lights ... TPMS has a tendancy to throw yellow lights when the weather starts getting cold. I always have a gauge with me and double check just in case.

Yep - I had the "M Mobility System" - that's how I found out about the lower pressure.

You can patch it yourself as long as the impingement is not in the sidewall. Autozone sells a kit for like $10.

It is not on the sidewall. The screw got into one of the middle grooves. Maybe I'll get the tire replaced since it is a new car. Here goes ~$400 ...

I have a couple of questions regarding this:

1. Is it OK to get the tire patched, or should I get it replaced?
2. If the tire needs to be replaced, should I get both the (back) tires replaced?

The tires have about 1000 miles on them. The nail is in the 2nd tread from the left of the tire (left rear tire).

If it's in the tread area and just a normal screw, you should be fine. A proper repair will plug the hole and patch it from inside. I just had it done in the DC area--$41 at Mr. Tire, and they do it correctly without damaging the wheel.

2. If the car is brand new, no.

I see you're in Cali. Discount tires will patch tires for free at all their locations. I'm sure other chains have similar policies but I've had years of running low-profile tires and have utilized their services more times than I care to recollect. I personally wouldnt do this job myself just from observing the machines and effort they go through to do the job "professionally".
