Ipod - No Sound

Ok..this might be a stupid question. Just tried out my ipod adapter in my car and i can see all the playlist and songs, but as soon as I play it, no sound. I looked at the connection and it seems ok. A couple of questions:

1. are we suppose to connect both the ipod connector and the headphone connection (connecting the headphone to the aux)? i did both just in case. on my old e46, i just needed the ipod connector no headphone.

2. i choose aux on my idrive

anything else that i'm missing? fyi..i have the first gen nano which I'm assuming is compatible?

you should choose ipod
not aux
aux is only if you are only using the mini headphone connector

It is AUX and then iPod.

That's not the problem here as the OP in fact can see the iPod Playlists and songs in the iDrive screen. Otherwise he won't see them... the issue is no sound.

the one that came with the dealer. the cable has both an aux connection and a connection that connects to the ipod. the other end i connected to both the aux and usb. maybe i should only connect either usb OR aux.

You are doing it correctly, you connect both AUX (line-in) + USB.

The OEM cable that you should be using has only an iPod connection at one end and both an AUX jack and an USB connector at the other end.

It should be a Y-cable.

iPod connector on one end and line-in + USB on the other end.
