Friend has an iDrive problem on his '09 M3
Hey all.
My friend has an '09 M3 coupe, Interlagos Blue/black interior, 6MT, tech package, premium, with the new iDrive. Great car! However, he's having a strange issue with the iDrive. From day one, he's always seen these shopping cart icons on his nav map. No matter what he does, he can't get rid of these things. He just finished his 1200 mile fluids change at the dealership and told the tech there about the problem. Their claim: "cannot reproduce problem." No duh, they were in the garage, out of satellite range. Any ideas on what's going on, and more importantly, how to fix it? I'm cross-posting this. Posted into the M3 forum, but since this just seems to be an '09 iDrive problem and not specific to the M3....I figured you guys might know something.

Could be icons from a previous search. I'm used to the older iDrive version, but to get rid of them you have to click on the "i" on the menu located left side of the map screen.

It would appear that your friend last searched or browsed around in the 'shopping' category. At least that is what happens on 08 and older E9x cars, the last category you searched or browsed displays its icons on the display.
To disable it on older iDrive cars you need to go to the icons on the left hand side and select the POI icon and you have the opportunity to disable the icons, I would suspect it is similar on the 09 iDrive. |

Just talked to my friend. He tried the "search for something else"; the shopping carts never go away.

It's a known issue. Only happens at 400ft scale and below. They can't be turned off. I'm hoping it gets fixed in the first iDrive software update (whenever that is).

I haven't seen those icons on my maps in sometime. I think I went into one of the submenus and unchecked all the points of interest. That seems to have done it.

They're still always present for me at 400ft scale and below. Have yet to find anyone who can actually point to a way to turn them off, though I've found lots of other people who confirm they also have them (always at 400ft & below).
