Radar and School Buses

So, I've become aware that School buses will give me full tone on my V1 here in Texas. It occurs reliably every day when I drive home from work and pass by one or ten.

Can anyone explain why a school bus might be sporting a radar source? I've thought of the typical responses like, make poeple react to slow down from their detector going off, manufacturer or corporate trying to monitor and maintain safe school bus driving speeds, etc.

I'm more curious if anyone knows the definate answer of why they are equiped with a radar source strong enough to give full tone from any direction within 200 yds.

I have no idea. This doesn't happen to me, but every time a train passes me it sets my V1 off.

Most probably for traffic lights control and location (using the same traffic lights system as a way to locate buses by sending a particular "handshake" at crossing traffic lights).

Cheaper radar detectors emit a signal. TX buses must be running radar to get those kids gome quickly!
