DVD hack

I did a search and came up with nothing, but has anyone hacked the DVD player to get it to work while the car is driving? I mean it's nice to have the option to play a DVD, but I don't often find myself just sitting in the car hanging out for extended periods of time. Thanks for any info.

Sadly, and as far as I am aware, such a feature is not available. I do remember reading a while back that someone had hacked a toyota/lexus DVD player to display DVD's while the car was moving. Thus, it certainly may happen in the future.

As a side, it is interesting that I read far less about people perfoming such hacks on entertainment systems in german cars as opposed to american/japaneses ones.

I called them and they said the X5 kit works with the E9x M3, it's $400.

Well then, I stand corrected!

Ok so how exactly does that work? Sorry I'm not at all tech savvy. You buy their module and plug it in and then you can use your dvd player anytime?

Get off your German high horse. People are doing it regularly to pretty much any kind of car you can imagine. It just takes time. It also seems to take a little longer for the hacks for cars other than American or Japanese to come out but they are out there.

Read through the link you posted. You need a external DVD (or video source) to display video. This module is essentially a video switch. You connect it to LCD screen in your car. One input has the original i-Drive video input. The other is the video for your external video source. Since they changed the video input to the LCD screen on the 09s I'm actually surprised if this works at all.

In any case, w.r.t original question, certainly not want you guys want for your 09 CIC.

Perfect for my 08, but not for the thread starters 09.

i have an 08 thats going to be delivered in a week's time and this mod is tempting but it seems like the install is quite involved... not sure if i am confident in doing this alone.
