Brake help-

I just installed new PFC direct drive rotors, PFC 08 brake pads and bimmerworld solid guide pins. On the street the brakes feel great. I properly bed the brakes the other day. Today about a few laps into my session at lime rock I am now getting extreme brake shudder. Any ideas?

Pad deposits. I'm not familiar with that pad compound, but if they're full fledged race pads the deposits should be scrubbed off with some more sessions.

My Ferodo pads (rear) gave some feedback first session last time out. Went away next session.

I should add/amend -- so long as you've got good stopping power and everything else re brakes seems copacetic, it's likely just pad deposits and they should go away if that's a race compound pad.

Thank you for the feedback. Pad deposits is what I suspected too. Hopefully it goes away soon.

Good luck. Puts a real damper on braking when you have that going on. Drove me nuts.

Thanks! I know what you mean. Driving me nuts too. I'm about to go out in a few minutes. I'm really hoping it goes away this session.

Whenever I had deposits, it wasn't apparent until the brakes had fully cooled (like O/N). I have never had deposits with race pads.

Did you lube the guide pins?

Identical setup to yours (to the T). Pad deposit, jab it hard before Turn 1 and it should smooth out Love this setup BTW. Report back.

How easy are the guide pins to install? I was just about to trigger buying a set for this season. Is the increased braking precision noticable?

Thanks

After my second session it's better but not gone. I'm really hoping its gone by mid third session.

I've tried stabbing the brakes however it's not helping.

Yes the guide pins where lubricated.

I called PFC and they think it's due to the previous pad compounds not agreeing with the new PFC pads. They said it should go away after using for some time. If not to use a Brillo pad or scotch pad to clean the rotors from any left over pad material. My front rotors are new PFC direct drive however my rears I did use stoptech street pads on. Maybe that's the issue.

Feeling through the pedal, or through the steering wheel?

Pedal = rear, wheel = front

It was in the wheel and pedals and now it's just the pedal. I'm assuming it's the rear rotors that are the issue. Done with 3rd session ... Better but not gone. One more session to go. It's not affecting my braking ability so that's good.

Very pleased with my new setup other than the vibration issue that I hope solves it self. So far no fading.

I just received the same rotors and guide pins, but will use Pagid RS-19s instead. I never had uneven pad deposites with race pads.
Did you drive around after the first session before parking in the paddock? You really need to cool your brakes down after each session. One cool down lap at the end of the session may not be enough,

In late 2013, my RS19 on OEM rotors caused vibration, probably attributable to deposits - but nonetheless frustrating
This has mostly cleared even though I am using the same consumables (currently at 8 single-day events, expecting longevity of 10-12 events).

Hope this sorts itself out, for yourself - and myself
(since I have also upgraded to PFC rotors for late 2014-2015)

On a separate issue, how long should I expect my ad08's to last? I have 3 days on them with a total of about 3800 miles on them. I did feel a drop off in grip yesterday at the track but that was towards the end of the day.

Easy. But you need the right tool. The front ring had holes larger than the rears and therefore I needed a different tool.

Before attempting to work on it, make sure you get the right plier for it and it fits. Otherwise a breeze. Remove the HEAT shield from the back too.

I am VERY VERY happy with this setup and no need for a BBK. Pads are hardly wearing now (in the front).

The right tool is the pliers used to open up the clips, right?

You put these in front and back calipers? I thought they were for the front only where you'll gain the most benefit.

Thanks for your help

Yes my M3 is AW. Thanks!

Is your M3 the blue one with Apex wheels? If so, it was very nice. Loved the stance with the lowered suspension.

Bent Tip Snap Ring pliers they are called. I bought mine from amazon and then had to go to Pepboys to get the right size

Front and back. My rears were slight tapered as well when it came to wear.
The greatest benefit is now no more wiggling the caliper for the guides to hook. Press the caliper in, bolt up in a heart beat.

Get them front and rear, you'll be glad you did.

03///M3, did you notice the reduced wear? What was the greatest benefit for you? What fluid are you running?

Good stuff, Lufty. You are saving me time, if not money!

You used the M3 specific guide pins at the front, and the "Other Ate Single Piston" model at the back?
