haha----wait....are you just using me?

Talked to Honest Assembly yesterday. They've stripped everything off the cracked motor that we want to use on the "new" motor. So, the next steps are:
-assembling everything onto the new motor
-installing the new rod bearings
-installing motor into the car
-installing the supercharger
-testing

The process won't go super quickly because Cory from Honest Assembly is ramping up to go to SuperLap Battle this weekend at COTA. He's running his M2 in Limited. So, my stuff will see limited action during their shortened work week, and then have to wait until everyone comes back from COTA next week.

All this to say, I have no idea when things will be done.

This made me chuckle. That aside, fingers crossed for a sooner than later swap over of parts to the replacement block!

Minor update: Went to Honest Assembly on Friday to check in and see the car. I don't think I've seen my car since last May when I dropped it off. I was surprised by my visceral reaction to seeing it. I really miss that car! Was so happy to see it. A lot of great memories have come from that car.

The new engine is still being prepped. More things still need to be added to it before it goes in, but it's coming along.

I still don't have a timeline for its completion. It's always hard with these kinds of jobs. Never know what speed bumps you'll run into. Anyway, it's in process and I'm eager for it to be completed.

Gotta tell ya-----had some SERIOUS FOMO watching Super Lap Battle at COTA. Perfect weather, fast track.......oh man.....was really chomping at the bit watching it. Was really happy to see the Honest Assembly M2 went sub-2:20 at Super Lap. Congrats to those guys for that. Definitely takes some work to go under 2:20 at COTA.

For my part, I don't know if I can do better than my 2:16.6 at COTA----at least with the car in its same current configuration. I do have the desire to return to Watkins Glen and VIR. Road Atlanta is not super high on my list to return to, but there is a GTA event there soon. Don't think I'll be ready for that. Interestingly, GTA has an event at Pikes Peak International Raceway (PPIR). Kinda of a weird venue---really short. The main problem there is that there's a nasty dip on the oval. I'm quite sure my car/splitter would bottom out on the dip. I've driven it with my street M3 and it's a very unnerving dip on the oval. (The dip is a flaw in the pavement due to the tunnel underneath that that goes to the infield paddock.) If GTA was coming to Colorado, I wish they would just do High Plains raceway. That's a solid technical track, and it sells 100 octane at the track (unlike Pueblo and PPIR that don't sell any fuel at all......).

I'm still eyeballing NASA events here this summer leading up to NASA Nationals at Utah Motorsport Campus. We'll see.

Let's file this one under: She's baaaaaack!

Just picked it up today. Thanks to Honest Assembly Garage for putting her back together. There's a NASA event at High Plains this weekend. Might see if I can get there on Sunday. We'll see. Would need to figure out a bunch of logistics quickly.

Happy to report that I took the car to High Plains Raceway on Sunday and it ran great across four sessions. No notes or comments. Just ran solid.

I mistakenly thought there was a NASA event at High Plains, but it turns out the NASA event was at Pueblo Motorsport Park, and the event at HPR was an open lapping day. I was much happier to have a non-competition day to shake down the car. (I brought a couple friends to the track, so I was taking passengers out onto the track with me, so I had a couple hundred extra pounds in the car. It's interesting how much you can feel that weight.)

Now I need to concentrate on getting my driving chops back after almost a year-and-a-half break. I didn't drive bad yesterday, but diving late into braking zones is something that takes me a bit of time to get back into.

Anyway, it was nice to just have a fun and social day at the track without tech issues. Phew.

I just wanted to give you a HUGE thank you, dogbone ! If it wasn't for your detailed journal with the chapters, I wouldn't have found what I needed for the work I'm pursuing.

My fenders have literally stripped completely, so I can't "screw" them in anymore. I was going to just use some M8 rubber riv nuts (rubber riv nuts are better for applications that see a lot of vibration) and M8 bolts to repair it that way. But I figure since I have LW FRP vented fenders, I might as well install those once I figure out what to do.

Anyways, whether or not I use the FRP vented fender or my OEM plastic ones and add vents myself, the Aerocatch 3 (above panel) you listed and showcased in your build helped me decide on a mounting method that would allow me to remove the bumper easily. I did not want to deal with getting under the fenders and unbolting it, especially if I am now adding a front splitter.

Also I wasn't sure if you had any detailed images of that set up?

I personally don't mind hacking up my car to make small things like this easier...

Glad the thread was able to help!

On page 85 of the thread, I made this posting that shows several pictures of the latches: https://www.m3post.com/forums/showpo...postcount=1866

Is that what you were looking for?

yes that was perfect ty.

I think I have a general path of what to do now. ty. i think asking for how it looks like with the bumper off would be too much to do, since all i wanted to see was how it fits and what expected modifications to do.

When the car is in the garage (versus sitting at a shop for a year), it's easy to take pictures!

Here's a couple pix of the underside of the latch setup:

oh perfect. this is exactly how imagined it in my head, just a basic notch of the fender to fit the latches and call it a day

Thanks Gabe!
