E90 Engine Leak

Hi Guys!

I have a problem with an engine leak with my E90.

I was driving on the Motorway when I saw white smoke coming out of my car, I could smell burning.

Popped open the bonnet and there seems to be a leak from a bolt on the left side of the engine (if facing the engine)

The tray is about half an inch deep with oil now. Called AA which helped me tighten the bolt, it seems to have stopped the leak from the bolt but the guy didn’t seem to know what the bolt was or whether there would be any further problems.

I have took photos please see attached.

I have had a service done on this car in about 3 months ago, what problems do you guys think this is? or is it common and how do i diagnose it?

I have took it back to the garage i service this, they have confirm that they have not touch that bolt when servicing so would it be a case of it just becoming loose?

Thanks alot guys!

I see, so if it is the timing chain tensioner acting up is this a serious issue? as i have tightened it and it seems to be not leaking now (fingers crossed)

is it quite common that it loosens and leaks?

Interesting. That doesn't look like a S65. Hopefully you figure it out none the less.

I wouldn't even bother taking it into BMW. Just tighten it to spec and check your oil level.
