FS: 2009 E90 M3 154K Miles - BE Bearings @100K, Well Maintained & Loved
Recently switched roles at my job that now requires me to drive more than my normal highway 25 mile commute, plus gives me some cash incentives to have a car newer than 2020, which is really really hard to turn down cash + free gas IF I get a new car.. and with 2 kids, wife's car, plus a 88 FFJ62, looks like the E90 is the one to go. So I am reluctantly trying to see what I could get my precious M3. Since I planned on keeping this car forever, I have never thought about what it would be worth. So this is open to input from anyone more familiar with the market these days.. I am open to offers in the coming weeks. I am scheduled to have the windshield replaced in the next two weeks as there is a small crack in the bottom right passenger side, so I am not ready to move it immediately (I also need to figure out a new car for work), but I wanted to test the market and see if there is any interest locally for when it is ready to sell. I can probably be ready to sell within 2-3 weeks if someone is interested. Car History and Maintenance Overview: I bought this used right at 5 years ago when it was ~90K miles. I immediately immersed myself into this forum and other sources and learned everything I could about it. I did a ton of maintenance right away, including BE bearings installed by Motorsport Connections in W-S, NC. For the last 3.5 years, I have used a phenomenal M shop (Carr Indus) local to my work exclusively for all maintenance. They are the best M Car shop I have found in the state, and if anyone was interested in this car I would be happy to have them go over all of the maintenance that has been done over the years and go over the condition of the engine, car, etc. Any serious buyers I can get you a detailed breakdown of all maintenance done since I have owned it. Since this is my DD, which is 95% highway 25 miles each way, I have kept it up to date on everything preventative that my shop recommends. Its gotten Liquimoly 10-60 every 5k miles on the dot, and I did multiple oil tests after bearings were done and everything has been great. This engine does not burn oil, it can go 5K miles since I have owned it and at most, goes from near the top to the middle on the oil sensor. It is truly a dependable road warrior. I have had the typical S65 items come up and take care of them immediately, such as throttle body actuators which went out at ~115K or so, and an alternator which was at ~130K, both replaced with OEM. I also put in a drive shaft replacement at about 110K to get rid of that annoying "ting" that some people talk about.. It just annoyed the shit out of me. Valve Covers replaced probably 2 years ago with new gaskets, etc etc.. The list of maintenance is extensive, so I wont get into it all unless someone is very interested I will lay it all out. This car is my pride and joy, so it was treated as such to keep it going for the long haul. It has had a few 'fender benders' as to be expected with a car this age, all documented and cosmetic repairs to front and rear bumpers, plus a lady that knocked off my side mirror and I made her file a claim because those side mirrors are like 2.5K new from Germany. But I have all the documented background showing absolutely no damage beyond cosmetic, bumpers, mirror, etc. Each of the people that dinged me filed insurance once they saw the cost for M Body work, so those are on the car fax I am sure, but I can share the names of who did the work and the documentation for those things. Paint is in good shape, I have had it professionally polished and coated 2-3 years ago, and I always two bucket hand wash.. This was my dream car, still is, so I treated it as someone who intended on keeping it for the long haul. New Front Tires - Replacing Rear which weren't ready before sale if needed. Tasteful Modifications: I added the following things.. Corsa Exhaust + Rogue Resonated Test Pipes. Alpine Tune. (all of these have been on for 4 years and flawless). Interior things such as the steering wheel, paddles, etc can be seen in the picture. This exhaust setup is one that is quiet when you want it, but roars when you open it up. By far my favorite. Will be replacing Windshield and getting front bumper replaced with OEM in the next two weeks (I was planning on doing this regardless of selling as its time to have get it looking fresh), but let me know if you have any interest and I can start the process of sharing more information. Edit to add: Yesterday, she received a fresh oil change and 2 year coolant service.. $410 in total. All scheduled with my typical service intervals. I told the owner of shop when I was picking up the records I was maybe selling it, and he called the guys over and they were like "Noooo way, you can't, this one is so clean, keep it" etc etc They did tell me I should ask $24K for it at a minimum.. Based on the maintenance I did to it over the years and never once put off anything they recommended. |

Background on this exhaust. It was a new Corsa Exhaust when I get it, but I put it on and hated the tips.. So I got with a shop here and we found some sick matte black tips, and replaced the corsa tips with these.. and painted the muffles in matching paint. Came out perfect. So that's why the exhaust is below. I also have a full printout of most of the routine/preventative maintenance. I scanned it to PDF, and below is the screen shot of the bottom where it totals the Work done since I found this shop. This does not include a few things that I had done at Motorsport Connections back in 2018-2019, which was the BE RB Bearing Job, and a few other things like a new Alternator about 18 months ago, which happened closer to motorsport, so I limped there and got them to do that $1,800 job (from memory). They are going to send me the records for their work and the bearings. I do still have the original bearings and they had no copper, but glad I did it for peace of mind. The total maintenance at the other shop not included below is likely $4-6K with the RB job, alternator, and oil changes, etc etc.
As I get this thing ready for sale and all the records and pictures together I will update this post. |

Got my other records! Below is just the Rod Bearing Record. Note, I bought the BE Bearings from recommendations on here. So, that is not included here in the totals, as I gave them those.. I think they were $800? Can't remember exactly.. I do have the old bearings taken out which were actually not too bad, no copper, etc.
Also including a snip of the Alternator, that was replaced in 2021 with new OEM. In addtition, the total spent at Motorsport, not including BE bearing part cost, is included at ~$4K. So that's a total of ~$14K in preventative maintenance (including the big one-time jobs that many people don't do in time) |

If the current inquiries don't pan out, I will post some more details in about a week once I get more "ready" to move it. Still have some things to do, and also have to find another car. I'll post some addition things in the meantime just to keep this fresh. Below is a picture of when I replaced the valve covers back in 2021 while doing the gaskets as part of the preventative maintenance. There wasn't a leak, but my shop recommended I go ahead and do it at the time. I opted for new Red Covers Note, one of the better parts of my experience with this particular engine on this car, is that contrary to others over my years on this board, mine has never been an oil burner.. It goes the full interval (5K max) between oil changes (LiquiMoly) and doesn't lose oil.. Its been nice to not have to carry a spare quart of oil on my commutes. So she's tight and been maintained well. |
