First M3 Purchased! (E92 M3 AW/FR)

Hi all,

7 years ago was my first introduction to the BMW world. I had a pre-LCI black on black E90 328i that only had the premium package on it. She was good to me but eventually I longed for something more and seeing Ms left and right where I've lived (LA/Seattle) doesn't help much. Fast forward to today where I'm finally in a position where I could pull the trigger and purchase my first M3! The M3 is my "realistically attainable dream car" and now I guess I have to dream a bit bigger for the next one

It took me about a year of moderate searching and 4 months of daily searching to find the M3 I wanted.

Requirements:
-Alpine White
-Fox Red
-LCI
-E92
-DCT
-<60k miles
-Competition Package
-Individual Audio
-No accidents on record nor proof of accidents through paint matching, body panels, etc
-No front bumper drilled for license plate

Preferred:
-West Coast/non rust state car
-As many other packages as possible was a big bonus

During this time, there were a lot of cars that almost fit the bill from my hard requirements but always had one or two things that made me say no (accidents and two tone Fox Red/Black were the biggest hindrances ...). Yeah, and you think I'm kidding that I'd turn down a car because it was drilled through but I did that multiple times as well. Having bumper plugs isn't the same - I did it on my E90. Every time you wash it it'll pain you so much. Yeah, you could always buy a new bumper but I'd rather buy from someone or a company who appreciated the car enough NOT to do that (I'm talking to you ... CarMax). So yes, this was about principle as well. If I was going to spend this much time and money on an M3 I wanted it to be perfect so I wouldn't have any regrets. Never settle!

I usually used autotrader to search but found out about autotempest. This makes it super easy to search multiple websites. Eventually I saw this car on cragislist via autotempest in New York and it was already 4-5 days old so I thought it would be sold as AW/FR goes FAST. Luckily the first buyer could not secure financing so I was in the driver's seat.

2012 E92 M3
-Alpine White
-Fox Red Extended
-60k miles
-DCT
-Competition Package w/ CF Roof
-Premium Package
-Technology Package
-Cold Weather Package
-Individual Audio

Thoughts: I'm super happy with the car and got a bit lucky as I actually bought this car sight unseen (had a PPI done and a thorough discussion with the shop owner who did it). I didn't have enough time to fly cross country and didn't want to risk the car getting sold from underneath me so I committed to it. I'd rate the car as an 8/10 exterior and 9.5 interior as is so not too bad all things considered. This car is everything I dreamed of and more - I'll spare you guys the details as you all know this car inside and out already.

Plans: I want to keep it OEM+ so no major things planned. After a couple of trips to the gas station already, I know what "smiles per gallons" finally means now PO actually did some exterior mods I would have done already so that saved me some $ (CF splitters, gloss black grille, tints).

Left:
-CF spoiler
-Lux H8 Angel Eyes
-OEM trunk/hood emblem, wheel caps, M3 badge (PO did CF).

Without further ado here are some pics and thanks for reading!

This is why you wait as opposed to settling. I'm glad it all worked out for you.

Looks amazing! Definitely worth the wait and not settling! How much did you pay for it if you don’t mind me asking?

Congratulations!

AW/FR is a really nice combo on the E92, but I am actually looking for sth more flashy meanwhile

Are the rod bearings done?

Enjoy and drive safe!

Thanks for talking to me a bit affirming my decision! Also shout out to BOOF who has a great connect for a shipper if anyone needs one in the future.

Yeah, I knew it was coming. EAG has one for $48.9k AW/FR ZCP + more w/ 18.5k miles. It's only on autotrader and not their own site so not sure if it sold. Throughout my search I only remember seeing one or two more in a manual - I think one was on this forum. DCT fits better for me right now (DD, horrendous bumper to bumper traffic) so I'm happy with it. Down the line the plan is maybe a second E9X M3 with 6MT or some sort of Porsche 911 with a manual to complement.

I paid a bit north of 30k - definitely not an amazing "deal" if you go just by raw specs compared to other ZCPs but a fair price considering options/rarity/condition in my opinion.

Yes, super glad he did. WA is one too and there won't be another owner after me to mess this up

Yes, I've heard about that and it looks nice. That is definitely on the shopping list but I'll try not to make the mod bug grow like you alluded to after that.

Thanks! I do agree that M cars deserve loud colors. Many hate it but I actually LOVE Austin Yellow (something about the way it glimmers with the sun shining on it) on the M4s. For this platform Fire Orange appeals to be but it is obviously pricey. I hope you find something you like soon! Rod bearings are not done yet but on my immediate agenda of things to do.

Congrats. Similar to mine, except my leather isn't extended. The CF spoiler will tie in nicely.
