E90 M3 took 9.5L of oil and shows only half full?

Took the car to a local indie shop. Brought a turnermotorsport lquidmoly oil change kit that came with 9L of oil. When picking it up shop said they had to use all 9L plus half a liter but edipstick shows only half full. End of day got home from work and it still only shows half full.
Should I be concerned?

I’d be fine with that. I’d only be concerned if it showed low add +1 qt. 9.5 bottles is plenty

I just put 9.5-9.75l in mine after sump was off.. if they sucked all the oil out of filter housing, and did a level car oil change and let it drip out 9.5l should be fine..

Any to clarify you mean the oil is saying "ok" with it half way on the full gauge, not that it's half full..

Don’t add another 9L. Don’t add anything. Report back after a couple of days of driving.

Same scenario with me and I couldnt understand why it went well beyond stated capacity. No worries.

Last std oil service on my car took 9.5 also and it was on the half mark. Let the car go to sleep then recheck it.. when I drained My oil and changed my oil cooler it took nearly 11qts, the cooling passengeways and cooler lines hold a lot of oil.

If it doesn't change, you're going to need a new Oil Level Sensor.

Also, half full on the gauge means it’s down by 1/2 liter. The gauge covers 1 liter.

It can take days of driving to have the oil indicator reset - it's very slow. Keep hitting the refresh button every time you drive.

That button does essentially nothing, the reason it takes long to read the oil level is because oil temps need to be at operating level before the oil sensor will even start doing it's thing... so it's the warm up process that takes long, not the sensor. Every morning when I get in the car, as soon as I hit just below normal temperature (about 10 mins or so on the way to the interstate) it starts calculating. On a warm start-up, it's less time, but again all about the temperature.

A full 24 hours later it's smidge below the top line. Not looking forward to doing my own oil changes but I guess I'll do 9L and just wait ?

You can hold down the BC button on the stalk when you're on the oil level screen to refresh the reading once it shows a oil reading.

Being a half-liter down in a sump of that size isn't going to cause problems.

Being a half-liter over-full will cause issues like foaming, excessive crankcase pressure, etc.

my last two oil changes have taken roughly 9.5 qt each time, and I got the "ok" reading (full mark) both times, didn't have have to wait 24 hours to get an accurate level reading.
