He was just saying that the TCU itself in the car technically has a phone number associated with it. In some MY E46 cars, it was reported that folks figured out the phone number of their TCU's hence allowing incoming calls for "free".

I'm so bummed that this feature doesn't work with the 08 M3's, just the 08 X6 and all the 09's. It would have made the BMW Nav sooooo much better.

I even went through the trouble of calling BMW assist and the dealers. They said that I'd need the whole new 09 Idrive. BS!!

I have a 2009, and sending a google map to the car works well. I didn't think I would ever use it... but it is handy. Someone in the office giving me an address where we are going for eats or something. I google it quick, send it to car, get in car... voila. But yes,... I could of just as easily looked it up via iDrive. It is a handy trick, but not a huge deal.

p.s. first published pic of my love below =)
Very nice. Would you mind doing us a big favor? Could you tell us the part number and version number for your BMW Assist TCU. Its very easy. All you do is go to the trunk and pull up the trunk floor. There will be either two silver boxes at the bottom of the trunk. One to the left is the Sirius Satellite receiver (if installed) and the one on the right is the BMW Assist TCU. The part number is stamped on top of it. Would be very interested to see what it says ....

If you have half a dozen calls to make, can you send all the addresses to the Idrive (I have an 08, but I think this feature is available on 08's in the UK).

I was having the same issue. You cannot send Google DIRECTIONS to the car, but you can send an address. So don't look up directions on google, but rather just the address and this should fix the problem.

just make sure when you pull the address in google maps that you magnify it to street level, otherwise you wont see the option to send the street maps to the car when you CLICK eMail.

Have you activated BMW Assist?

Just ran across this post and wondering if someone might know. I have an 05/08 build (E92 M3) and it would seem that I should have the proper hardware but when I go into the idrive menus I can't find anywhere the "MyInfo" page. Can someone detail how to get to that page?

In a post above it says to look under the trunk floor but does that mean I need to remove all the trim to get under the storage comparment (where the inflation pump is)?

Thanks,
Royce M

"MyInfo" is a page under the BMWNA website... on your computer, not in idrive.

Yes I know, but I noticed a few others in this thread commenting on it working in their 2008 M3's. Figured I'd ask.

The "MyInfo" page I was referring to was the one in the iDrive screen as shown on the BMW Assist web page (see link below). BTW is that an 08 iDrive screen or is that from an 09?

Thanks,
Royce M

So I tried to send an address to my car today. I called to activate the BMW Assist from the car, but they said they did not receive the paperwork from my CA yet. I have had the car almost two weeks. How long does it usually take for them to get the paperwork? Did my saleman just forget to send it in?

Most likely. My iDrive paperwork was all messed up, had to call my CA. Two days later, everything worked.

... working on MY2008 Canadian M3 with iDrive. What I meant was that for the USA only MY2009 iDrive have these Google/MyInfo features.

Its a bummer that the 08 iDrive doesnt do this.. I was hoping for a hack - I know the functionality is there.. I think the bmw service reps can send stuff to you.

BTW, sort of related.. the Dash Express portable navigation can do this.

It also does live traffic (ie not FM-based)!
