attention all scratch gurus

crappy pic i know, but i wanted to get the opinion of any scratch/paint gurus out there and see what my best course of action might be...the scratches are def deep enough to catch my fingernail (for example)...i obviously don't want to cut corners with the repair, but i'm hoping i can avoid a respray of the entire bumper...

anyway, check it out and let me know what you think...in addition to what to do, recommendations on where to do it would also be appreciated...thanks in advance!

i have the same colour car (le mans?) and i have almost the same exact scratch, in the same location!
only way i can see to fix this is a bumper respray
bmw of fairax have a bumper special
$400 to repaint any bumper, including all supplies etc

It's through clear coat and paint. this may require very little mold filling and a respray. I've been quoted in the $600 range for such a job at a 3rd party shop. I say, let it go, unless you have a super low deductible and it really bothers you.

good luck

It's too deep. Only respray can repair it. However, they maybe able to respray a particular section and blend it.

I used BMW of FAIRFAX on an 08 MR
I had backed into a stupid bush, and it scratched the bumper, straight through the paint.
And they did a great job
I just have to get off my ass and take the car to them
Can't find a better deal than $400 at BMw dealer

Highly recommend this shop. State of the art paint booth and phenomenal service. Fairly new so pricing is relatively competitive while they get their brand out there.

thanks guys...looks like a respray is the only feasible option...$400 seems pretty good, although the whole thing still kinda sucks...in less than one year of ownership of this car i'll have; 1) repaired/repainted my hood, 2) replaced my windshield, 3) had two tire punctures (thankfully, both have been patchable), and 4) now have to respray my rear bumper...i think what happens is every time i'm contemplating a mod, one of these unexpected money drains comes up...maybe it's some sort of sign...either way, it's pretty awesome...

Its a never ending cycle. I learned from my 335i to stop being anal about every scratch and dent and rock chips. After a few years of it, I just got tired out from worrying to keep my car in perfect shape. Only was that was possible was to not drive it, but then there is no point of owning it.

If it bothers you, respray it. Knowing that something else will eventually happen and this process will repeat. As much as you can try to prevent it, Murphy's Law always win. Bumpers are meant to be scratch up.

I would leave it in there since its on the bumper. If people ask, say you got those scratches when you saw a shopping cart about to run over a toddler and you moved your car to block the way and saved that kid's life.
