Newbie needs help: OPEN ROAD BMW EDISON 1200 Service not Free?

Excuse me if I'm wrong here. But my M3 is at 1500miles already and idrive vehicle status says it needs service - oil. The computer says OK on oil though.

I called to make a appointment for 1200 service and the lady said I didn't have to bring the car until 15000miles? And IF I need to add oil I have to pay for it? So I'm like.. huh? I just wanted to know if shes right or just didn't know what she's saying. Thanks for you help. Newbie.

CBS is free - 4yr/50K, adding oil if it is low depends on the dealership - I was told by JMK in NJ they can not top off the car since BMW would not pay them for it - total BS.

1200mi service is free. You may want to try another dealership if this one doesn't know simple things like this.

Thanks guys! Do you recommend a dealer around central or northern NJ that knows about M3? apparently the service people at open road doesn't know anything about the m3- the service guy said the m3 doesnt need break in period.. really!? And he had to check and ask someone inside

get the car serviced asap do not go beyond it...If that car is serviced at the 1200 mile mark it can NEVER be certified. get to another dealer. JMK BMW - Contact Manny - He is their M certified Guy.

you talked to the service receptionist, right? ask to speak to a service advisor and be very clear that you have an M3.

happened to me - these girls take hundreds of appointments and all the other BMW's do have their first interval at 15k, so i understand the confusion somewhat (i didn't, however, understand the attitude that came free with the phone call). i just politely asked to be connected to my regular service advisor and he of course cleared it up and booked the appointment.

just in case you get hassled, show them the servicing book that came with the car. it cannot be more clear.

I've had pretty good luck with BMW of Bridgewater (formerly Hunterdon BMW). Approx. 20 mins. from Open Road in Edison.

Thanks guys.

I actually went there today during my break to personally confirm what the lady told me over the phone. I was referred to a "service coordinator" and I explained to the guy that my M3 has reached its break in period and asked if it could be serviced. His answer was- "those cars doesn't need break-in. I told him I was just following what the manual said. He went inside to ask a mechanic (I assumed). When he got back he told me, yes it does need service and I need an appointment. NOW I'm paranoid if their mechanics know how to service an M3.

I concur. I live less than 10 minutes from Open Road, yet I would rather drive a much longer distance to have my car serviced elsewhere. In fact, there was a point I was driving 45 minutes south to Circle BMW in Eatontown for service. I've heard mixed reviews about the sales staff at Open Road Edison, but I rarely read anything but complaints about their service department.

Depends on where you are, but I'd stay away from Open Road and Freehold. If you're in the area, go to Circle BMW as someone mentioned above. See Tim in Service as he is the M Service Advisor and Danny in Sales since he is the M Sales Advisor

Unreal how some dealership try get ride of you by miss informing customers. If the oil level drops below minimum I just drive to Hassel BMW in Freeport NY and they top it off for me. The second time they didn't follow the right steps pouring the oil.

Thanks for all the inputs guys! I was considering Paul Miller but I ended up going to JMK in Springfield since it's closer to my job. BIG difference with the service and their knowledge of the M3. Immediately offered me a loaner without me asking despite their busy schedule. Open Road told me that I can't have a loaner. Hope the car comes out without issues.

Thanks AKAFP! Wonder if that's your grey M3 parked by the service area.
