so... i was on a list @ Global Imports BMW in Atlanta. I was number 42 just to place my order!!! I was looking at about 18 months. they had my 1k and I was ok for a while, but then I started getting excited and decided 18 months was just too long.

I called all the BMW dealers within a 5 hour drive of my house. I focused on mainly the less wealthy cities regions in the south east. After about 1 hour of calling I found a dealer that had 0 orders for the M3 and i was able to put my order in that day. This was 4 days ago... got the call today that my car was "In Production" and should be here in 6 weeks!

Good move! Car must have been 112 already and they were able to modify the order just before production. Mine's setting at the port waiting to be shipped.

I am now officially showing up as "scheduled for production" in the OC! If anyone is interested, this particular BMW dealer still doesn't have any other orders after mine. Which probably means they have another allocation coming up in 3(ish) weeks.

Not bad. I am near OC but I couldn't wait so I scored one on the east coast. It went into 150 status on 2/5/08 and it just showed up as awaiting transport last night.

Nope, just the norm. I put $1k down and am paying MSRP. It was a clean deal.

This is rad... my car is built, released to a transporter and awaiting transport at the port of exit.

Damn that was quick!

for those counting, that was 14 days from my phone call to the dealer to my car being built and awaiting transport... this wait is getting more tedious the closer it gets

I actually did the same thing after getting frustrated w no news on a promised allocation from one dealer, followed the advice of some members here and called around on the 14th. Needless to say my car will be completed on the 23rd...

edit: just found out it's in the body shop and completion has been moved up by a day!

When I bought my last new car (11 years ago) I called between 15 and 20 dealers looking for the best price. It's aways best to shop around for the best deal whether it's price or availability or both.
