I should have vidded my GT-R stoplight kills with my 335i.
I never lost to a GT-R in a stoplight race with my mildly modded 335i. Using launch control I'm sure they could have pulled...but by doing the same thing as me (just punching it on green), I could get out in front and keep pullling. As has been documented on this forum, I only had a tune, downpipes, meth injection, intake (making only 412/446 RWHP/TQ), LSD and wheels/tires. On the V-Box I was consistent 3.7 seconds 0-60 with a best of 3.5 seconds. Without launch control, the GT-R's I ran into couldn't achieve this and I pulled every time. Oh, and I was neck and neck with two different ESS 535 M3's at Airstrip Roll-On's. With my M3, I don't even try stoplight races as the "fragile" DCT makes me a bit nervous given the power I'm making so I've never tried a GT-R off the line.

I have the price of a nice used m3 into my tranny. GTRs are far from inexpensive to tune

It's not how much $$ but focus on the best bang-for-your-buck mods. Beyond an e85 conversion, the $$$ seemingly goes up exponentially as everything needs to be built...like yours and the 40 other 1,000+ HP GTRs I saw a couple weeks ago.

Damn man, someone pee in your cheerios the past couple days? We aren't hating on GTR's..... Just making simple comparisons. I don't think anyone here would dispute that a GTR is hands down best bang for the buck for under $250k

Yawn.. I have the price of a highly modified GTR in my M3 and X5, hell some of us could have bought a true exotic car or two GTR's but reality actually kicks in and some of us have multiple (3+)nice vehicles, not just one all fixed up. Thats boring and so 2003.

The GTR marketplace is more advanced especially for engine/transmission builds. One can spend significant sums of money on those mods and much much more. But generally speaking, you will get more bang for your buck modding a GTR versus the M3.

Some funny comments here , especially 335 guys never losing to a gtr Lmao. It's because they won't waste time racing you. I've had two m3s and they are awesome cars and one Hek of a dd. But since I don't need a dd I bought me a track weapon and weekend chill car and couldn't be happier. I never liked the car in pictures but when I saw it in person it blew me away. And now I'm in love with the way it looks. For the the price of an m3 supercharger, I did full catless bolt ons, and tuned on e85 making just about 600 whp and wtq on the Mustang dyno or 713hp and 734 wtq on dynocom dyno. I have stock motor, stock turbo and stock transmission Takin up this much added power. I can turn boost up or down 1 psi at a time on the fly with cruise control buttons 10 to 24 psi and adjust launch control rpm I want to launch at. On street tires I do consistent 10.4 136 mph on street tires. Tomorrow I will try drag radials and see what I can hit. Can your 335 do that? Lol all the performance mods on my car are 12k or less and could off been cheaper if I didn't but a 5k titanium exhaust. I've been to shift sector to and raced a few supercharged m3s and thru could not beat me how hard they tried. M3 is an awesome car I'd own one with my gtr if I could. Maybe if I sell my wife's 550i hehe.
The new m3 looks very promising and I will add that to my garage in the future. It will be way easier and much cheaper to get more hp out of the fi motor. Looks like m division might be coming back. A lighter m3 I never thought it would happen lol. Er wait m4. LOL My beast |

Modded versus stock arguments are pretty silly but this claim seems weird. I have owned 3 GTRs('09, '12, and '13) and only the 09 couldn't pull consistently in the low 3s to 60 without LC but it was still well south of 4. My best dead stop 0-60 in the '12 was 3 flat and the '13 was 2.9 with LC.

I think their more comparable then we think.
An M3 with 7-9psi strapped to it makes anywhere for 550-600whp. Sounds like a GTR with 4-6k in mods. The BMW tuning will just take more time to develop, as the tuning the parameters of that ECU is like starting from scratch as it's highly encrypted. Controlling the dual vanos takes lots of R&D on these cars if you want people to buy what you've developed. There was a blown M3 that did 173 at Shift-Sector 3 and the owners claimed it had a slipping clutch. Similar 800whp GTR's were doing 170-175. I think when M3 guys find a resource for building the transmission and tuning companies get more time on the dyno with these cars (with Turbo, positive displacement and big YSi blowers coming) the dynamics of the S65 will be more exploited and respected

Personally think they are so different that I would love to have both in the garage.

These threads crack me up! Its always fun to start arguments on forums and let all hell break loose, right? Spices things up a bit. Once again comparing two completely different cars to each other and fighting about it lol
This one is for the guy who commented on blowing the doors off a 458 in his M3... I went from SC'd M3 to v8 R8. My M3 would blow the doors off my R8. Shit, my R8 is prob neck and neck with a stock M3 DCT. Do I care? F no! A week after buying the R8 I was offered a BJ by a beautiful 20 something year old in exchange for a ride in the R8. In the M3 all i ever got was a big "thumbs up" from dudes. Case closed |
