I'm in the process of installing a head-up display add-on (Genuine BMW product)... It just plugs into the canbus to show speed, etc on a little screen mounted on the dash.

Once I got everything buttoned up, the dash and iDrive screen don't light up.

I unplugged it and plugged everything back in... and the iDrive and dash still don't light up. The radio works, the car starts. Just all dash/iDrive lights are off.

Did a fuse blow? Anyone know how to troubleshoot this??

Btw here is the install instructions video to show how it plugs into the canbus.

So other symptoms are my obd port is not working, keyless entry doesn't work, automatic lock button doesn't work, trunk won't open, glove box locks automatically.

It takes longer than usual for the car to turn over for it to start, but it does start.

I know the negative battery cable is not tightened, just slid down onto the terminal... Could that be it?? How do I get into the trunk??

Could it be the body control module?

Some of that sounds like the FRM died.

I thought so too, but FRM is interior lights and windows too... and mine all work.

My hazards, headlights, interior lights, windows, all work. Even the radio plays music.

Is it possible the FRM partly died? Or can it shut off voltage to specific parts and leave others operational?

There is a keyhole on the underside of the trunk on E9x. Use the key from the fob to twist and open the trunk.

I think that keyhole is only on Pre-LCI cars... I had already looked and couldn't find it.

I ended up opening the trunk pass-through and popping the trunk via the emergency trunk open handle with a coat hanger.

Tightened the battery terminals... problem still persists...

Works:
Windows
Radio (music playing)
Hazards
Headlights
Starts and runs (takes a little longer to turnover though).

Doesn't work:
OBD port
Keyless entry
Interior door lock/unlock button
iDrive screen (but music plays)
Cluster
Glove box locks automatically when closing
Trunk locks automatically when closing and won't pop open (but doesn't shut all the way).

Could it be FRM or Junction Box Module?

If you de-pinned the connection to junction box to tap in to the canbus, like what's shown in the video, I'd go back and make sure they're re-seated in the original connector properly and making a good connection.
