6mt vs DCT.... Again...
Just kidding! But a funny story since you're reading this:
I had to have my car valet parked at a hotel in downtown DC on Saturday. Valet dude at drop off was cool and took care of the car no problem. The next morning i needed to leave at 6:45am so, as noted on the valet slip, I asked for my car 30 minutes ahead of time. 45 minutes later I asked the hotel manager where my car was and he assured me the guy was getting it. After a total of an hour since my original call they finally approach me and tell me the valet guy doesn't know how to drive a manual. I had to go with him to retrieve my car... Not everyone needs or "must" learn to drive a manual, and I get that fewer and fewer cars on the road have them, but they DO exist in the wild and they DO need to be valet parked now and then so ALL valet parking attendants SHOULD know how to drive them. Maybe i'm an elitist asshole but I'd have it as a condition for employment. Side note: my car was left parked outside the hotel for an hour or so after I dropped it off while the parking guys did their car shuffles (the garage is a few blocks away). As I was walking down the street heading back to the hotel, I saw "my" car parked on the street on a different block. I thought: "what the hell, they just moved my car a block away???" Yeah, no. There was an IDENTICAL Jerez Black e90M3 a block from mine! Holy crap, what are the chances! |

I'm wondering where the OP lives. I've never gone to a place with valet parking here in South Florida where they didn't know how to drive a manual.

The good news is that no they didn't try to drive it. They just didn't know what to do and rather than come clean with me, tried to call other people in to take care of it. clutch is still good!
This was in DC at a hotel on F street near the MCI... errr, Veriz.... err Capital One Arena |

I would think that would be part of the job requirements. The one time I had to valet my car I informed them that the car was manual and they told me that they are all required to know how to drive a manual car. It should be a standard requirement for valet.
Glad they did not try to drive it and kill your clutch OP! |
