We went for a drive today through some local country roads. Maya took almost 300 pictures today of the car etc... From the looks of it I would say she should be able to take some cool pictures of the cars on the trip. This one was my favorite from today.

Very nice. Is that matte white paint/wrap?

Also, still planning on joining. How does the group feel if invited some non BMW cars like C6 vette or RS3?

I think the group would be welcome to nice people regardless of vehicle. I came from Vettes others have come from MB and Porsche. Not a wrap, Mineral White. It's possible she used filters or played with the photos on the computer, she didn't specify.

I just returned from Back of the Dragon and would suggest if going with a large group which includes some folks who are not inclined to drive as aggressively as other members of the group, that they go first and maintain radio communication with the more aggressive drivers who hang back a bit and receive notice of incoming traffic. This seemed to work well for the group that I drove Back of the Dragon with, although this route is seemingly less busy than I have heard Tail of the Dragon to be.

Do you guys have a meeting point and time maybe a little bit further south for those of us who might want to join coming from Atlanta, Charlotte or Columbia?

That's interesting because I had been thinking about a walkie talkie app. The problem with the app is if there is no service then the app would most likely not work. So then I was thinking cheap kids hand held $15 walkie talkies would be an option. My thought is as the date gets closer and we have all the definite son a group email to discuss everything from A to Z including where exactly to start and where to finish the day, who has experience there to lead the pack etc...

We will be in Atlanta on Saturday the 18th. There is a bmw group there that is trying to get some people together and hopefully we will be jointing them. I'll announce those plans as I get more info. My thought is that we would be leaving Sunday morning around 4am to head to the smokeys. So yes, we should ride together with sell others from the south. I put you on the list Victor.

Nope, that wasn't me. I was in TN last month for a Lee University college visit with my daughter, but we were in my wife's 2014 Estoral Blue 328i M-Sport...

Walkie talkies are a must for a large group. Cell phones are useless up there.

What is the Back of the Dragon? Been going up there for years and have never heard of it.

I'm actually OK with it. I was really crossed-up about giving my e93 up. I do much more top down, back road, summer fun driving than I would do track days. I wasn't crazy about the Sparkling Graphite color. The ESS was and extended Fox Red interior were the main attraction points. Who knows, maybe I'll just s/c Lil' Red. I'm the anomaly here that really does love the h/t vert over the coupe...

Back of the Dragon is the route from Marion, VA to Tazewell, VA. Give it a look as it is a great bit of road and not highly congested yet. Another great road is from Tazewell to Burke's Garden. I just did these runs this past weekend and will be making the trip back in the spring.

Walkin talkies are a must for what I was referencing as cell signal is likely non-existent.

Not sure if I will be able to make the trip but I will look into it and try. Any deadline regarding decision on attendance or not?

Absolutely no deadline. We will announce the time, place, route, schedule for the day when it gets closer with all those participating. Once we as a group figure it out we will announce it.

I've got a pair of walkie talkies I can lend up for the trip.

I'm going to do some research, I'm thinking even if it's cheap child's walkie talkies that might work for those that do not have. I'm actually sending out PM's to everyone right now asking for email addresses.

I found these 2 way radios on Amazon. In case any of you are unable to open this link it's 10 2 way radios for $100. They have a one mile range. I found a package of 20 2 way radios for approximately $200. Two members each have two radios and are willing to allow other members use one so I will wait until we get closer to place an order. Looks like it will be right at $10 per radio.

I don't know how effective the walkie talkies will be but I wouldn't be opposed to it. But what I do need is the location for the meet.

A few members are saying that the radios are perfect. We we will lose cell signal but not radio signal.

We will get the meeting pointe etc... ironed out over the next day or so. I'll PM and or email everyone on board so far and make it happen.

The 2-way radios work great when riding together in a group. Most of these radios can be purchased at Walmart, target, etc. average price is around 30 dollars for a pair with a 3-5 mile communication distance. I went with a set that has a 30 mile communication range but of course the price goes up a good bit!
