That’s right. I totally forgot about that. I managed to get a quote for a used S65B44A from an engine broker from the UK. $10,250. Don’t know how legit it is and don’t know if the engine includes ECU or not.

That is dirt cheap. No need for the ecu or anything else

It’s in GBP so USD would be $10,996.50. Gonna follow up with the quote and see how legit these guys are.

What do you see the pain points in terms of what needs to be rebuilt?

I don't think that applies to street engines. Apparently the engine can be honed 3x per block, so you can rebuild it 2x after the initial stroker before getting another block.

It's glorious and expensive and I don't think it'll be as reliable as a stock engine, but while it lasts there is nothing like it. I'd be lying if I didn't admit to thinking of building a second stroker every few weeks...

Out of curiosity, what’s the difference between aftermarket stroked engines vs S65B44A?

Most aftermarket stroker are 4.6, not 4.4. So oem is just a stroker, a 4.6 is a stroker + it is bored out

And one is oem and the other is not

Most of them have a stroke of 83mm. So it just depends on your bore. Stock bore (92mm) ~ 4,4l, 93mm ~ 4,5l and 94mm ~ 4,6l

Don’t mean to thread jack but does anyone know how I can verify the engine I’m purchasing is indeed an S65B44A and not S65B40?

So far it doesn’t seem like I need to provide VIN. At least they haven’t asked… the info they’ve provided me with thus far:

- mileage 126,000 Kilometers (approx 73,000 miles)
- test run done with engine to insure it is functioning properly
- verified with me that engine is 4.4L and S65B44A

Vendor is from Germany and my issue is what verification procedures can I use to make sure I know what I’m getting and the reputation of the vendor I’m purchasing from.

It is quite glorious - putting down the hp without heat soak is fantastic. Car is fast af and more consistent through the entire session.

I don't mind rebuild cost if I can plan for it. Is honing always required?

If you do buy it, make sure to change the rod bearings to BE-ARP

Yeah, no heatsoak. In a straight line the stroker is faster than the GTS. And you can't beat the throttle response!

I believe SteveD said it was, but you can always check with him to see exactly what the rebuild entails. At the time, rebuilding every 2 years seemed expensive, but I also clearly recall him saying that the GTS would also need rebuilds even if run stock as it's 'race use', and no engine can take that indefinitely.

Every now and again I have to listen to this video

Thanks for posting. Awesome video. Made my day. The car seems really well buttoned down in transients. I have to ask what the wheel and tire combo is? As well as the shocks (Penske Racing?)? Super smooth hands and the car is seemingly undisturbed by the Glen curbing or trailing throttle entry. Nice. Excellent V8 sounds too. Sub'd to YouTube channel. Luv'd the V1 detector mount.

The car was/is a dream to drive. With aero I'm sure we would have gotten to a 2:00 in WGI. We'll always regret not adding aero. And also not putting the mike in the engine bay so it can capture the insane CF plenum sounds!

The setup was:
PFC F+R BBK
MCS 3WR suspension
Hotchins sways
10.5 square TEAL16 wheels with BFG R1 tires, similar to Hoosier R7 but slower

Nice build guys. I’m trying to figure out how you guys got 371whp from a stock motor? Not trying to stir the pot. Honestly saying my mind is blown on that number.

The dyno database has tons of entries. If I recall correctly, the outliers are around 400whp

Dynojet 360-380 whp is pretty normal on stock internals with Stage 2 mods - intake, exhaust, tune. 400 whp is harder to get but there are some lucky ones.
