I use Flitz. Doesn't require steel wool, I use old t-shirts as rags. You apply it, rub it in/around, and then use a clean part of the rag to begin removing. I can do all 4 pipes in 10 minutes or less.

P21S Polishing Soap as needed (maintenance cleaning). Comes with a sponge and I'll occasionally use an old toothbrush to get in the hard-to-reach areas.
For removing baked-on crap, I use 0000 steel wool and follow it up with the above P21S. Honestly, don't overthink it -- metal polishes all work pretty much the same, there's no big secret to it.
