11 M3 Noise
Hey guys hope all is well.
I have a 2011 M3 with 65k miles, Rod bearings were done 8k miles ago already BE Bearings and ARP Bolts. I am having this weird noise that sounds like a thik thik thiking noise, can someone please help with what this noise may be? In addition, when revving the engine up to 3k + the noise does not get louder its the same sound as this. Been running 5w50 for the past 8k miles with new bearings. * oil was just changed 100 miles ago as well * ran 4100 miles on last oil. Sounds like a pretty common noise a lot of folks get after an oil change. I've had a similar ticking noise a few times after oil changes with Motul and LM 10w60. The tick generally goes away after a couple hundred miles.
My indy recommended that I do an oil change 3k miles after the RB service. Maybe try a change since it's about time for one anyway? Why'd you opt for the 5w50? Just curious.

+1 on the heat shield bolt slapping around under there. That's the exact sound I hear when my worn anchor nut for the tranny shield falls of and hits the shield when I try to tighten it down, haha (albeit it's just one click but you get the idea).
Or it could be something worse, start with the simple stuff before working up to panic mode. |

Sounds like a noisy lifter to me, no way that is heatshield... Too high pitched to be rod bearing, and irregular. Must be oil pressure related and a lazy lifter. Change to oil to thicker stock 10w-60 and see what you get.
This is why I never recommend going outside the manufacturer recommendation for anything, never ever. |
