Bad experience at BMW of Encinitas

Yesterday I had, in my opinion, a very bad experience at BMW of Encinitas. So, I had been exchanging emails with a sales gentleman for a bit now & until recently they were adding $5K to MSRP, so I wasn't bothering with them. Mid-week I get an email that they will sell me the car at MSRP & the guy says that they will also give me the buy-rate MF if I choose to lease. We setup a time to meet on Friday, so I head up there to put my order in. I have a spreadsheet with all options, codes & the lease calculation wih $0 down, buyrate MF, etc. After an hour of being there, he comes back from finance & informs me that my numbers are a bit off & that I missed a couple of items. He then proceeds to show me a lease rate that is $25 a month more with a cap reduciton of $1300 & explains this is because I did not include the title & registration. I look at my spreadsheet & notice that next to the .00275 MF I have listed, they have hand written "290-owner loyalty" . I ask him what this means & he says he doesn't know. I then ask him to show me where on his paperwork it shows the moneyfactor & he says he doesn't know. So he goes back to finance & comes back & says that they are giving me the standard money factor & that I had listed the buy-rate, which they will not agree to. So, not only did he lie to me in our emails and during our phone conversation, but he tried to slide it through without being up front & just explaining that they would not give me the buy-rate. When I press him on why he lied in his emails, he finally concedes that he thought he could get them to put it through. I then ask why then did you not just say that is why the payment is higher instead of trying to say that I had mistakenly not included the registration & title, which I had already explained I was going to pay all inception & license fees up front. So, in the end, I got to drive up and back to Encinitas from Del Mr, which on a Friday is no treat traffic wise & then waste an hour and a half of time at the dealership because the sales guy did not have the ethics to be up front about our negotiations. So, although I was a prior customer of BMW of Encinitas, I will never step foot in that dealership for sales, service or anything ever again. Considering I am 36 & this will be my 4th BMW in a row, BMW of Encinitas has lost a potential long term customer & in all honesty, I doubt they really care. Anyhow, if anyone is in San Diego, I would be very carefull when negotiating with this dealership.

This society is populated by ~99% morons. Clearly they figured you were one of them.

Some dude in LA was treated as one by BMW of Lincoln. Thankfully he didn't let them get away with it.

You should probably also report them to the Better Business Bureau as well. That is some shady bs to pull on someone.

Sorry to hear your story, but unfortunately, I am not surprised. I would send BMWNA an email with a link to this thread. I bet they would take this seriously.

Thanks for publicising your bad experience. It will hopefully prevent others from having to deal with the same BS.

Thanks for the support. Definitely feel better getting it of my chest. On a different note, Brecht BMW in Escondido is going to do the deal I was hoping Encintas would do. It took one email to the internet sales department & a 5 minute phone call, no bs whatsoever. It's a little farther drive for service, etc., but I'll gladly support a more honest up front dealer.

Just as another point of reference, I've had a pretty good relationship so far with BMW Encinitas. They were giving me the same 5k over story (which some folks are buying, btw), but finally did a deal at MSRP. This was after I got jerked around a bit by Brecht. Admittedly, the jerking around was much more up front with no lying involved. However they wasted my time thinking I may be able to get an MSRP deal when they had little intention of doing so (at least over email). At the same time, I have to hand it to Brecht that they are very responsive over email, which is great to see.

We'll see what tune I'm singing when the deal closes of course . . .

most CAs will say what it takes to get you at the negotiating table and then bring out their tricks...sucks that you had a bad experience.

Unfortunately, the sales people at dealerships come and go often. I doubt that he was even aware of the problem until you pointed it out and then didn't know what to do make a fix. He certainly didn't understand the lease terminology. I am fortunate to have the same salesperosn helping me since my first purchase with BMW.

Just FYI: I noticed you had 275 as the buy rate, the true buy rate is 255.

thanks, leasecompare has it as .00258 a few threads up, where can i confirm .00255? anyhow, since i am ordering a sedan w/ dct, i wasn't really hung up on the actual numbers today, just that they would do the deal at whatever the applicable buy rate was going to be in a few months. so their
.00290 was a pretty decent markup on their end.

PLEASE, PLEASE go to BMW of North County. No bullsh8t, they have Sedans you can order, no wait.

Ask for Rich B. He is there now.

760-439-4800.

They are physically small, but have big pull.

This in on the board if you search. You are looking at between $1200-$1400 for a 36 or 24 month lease @ 10k a year with just first month and TT&L. This is for a nicely optioned M3 coupe.

Sure, on a 2008 M3 sedan with an MSRP and selling price of $69,920 & a base money factor of .00258, 55% residual, a 36 month 15k a year lease will be $1153.61 + tax.

If I do the maximum multiple security deposits, that drops the money factor to .00209, and the payments will be $1100.51 + tax.

These payments are assuming that there is zero cap reduction and you are paying all inception fees up front.
