PittRace!

Wow! Course was awesome! Elevation changes were pretty intense and video doesn't do them justice. Received the below overheating message several times and while I never hit limp mode, I'm curious how long I might have had if I wouldn't have backed off for half a lap or so and let the car cool down.

After seeing the message pop up I noticed oil temp was quite close to 300. Car cooled quickly after backing off and the message would disappear after half a lap cooling down. Of course it would come back after a hard lap.

It was unseasonably warm this weekend on the east coast with temps in the low 90's.

you have all the go-fast mods, so thats about right for a 90's track day.

Appreciate your input. I figured I'd get there eventually (overheating). I ran in warmer temps earlier this year and didn't get as hot, so thinking the track's elevation changes put more stress on the engine.

More curious than anything else, because when that message popped up I still had full power, but backed off as a precaution. Didn't know if I was seconds away from limping or maybe if I had another lap.

Pitt Race is pretty decent, #3 in my mind after The Glen and VIR

No worries about your warning. The car will go into limp shortly after you get the warning but nothing bad has happened.

I suggest you start with the cooling mods! do88, etc

Remember that if you want the car to last longer you can short shift. Short shifting a supercharged car is still fast

Thanks!

Funny you should mention short-shifting. I was short-shifting my ass off for most of the day.

Since I went with the DeansBimmer aluminum version it's now rock solid! I mowed a bit of grass on Saturday and lost my gt4 replica splitter (was already cracked) but nothing else moved. Had I the stock version it would have been toast for sure!

I have to wonder if the aluminum under tray could cause some heat soak issues -- you have a big piece of metal (a heat sink) instead of plastic.

I guess it's possible. Running Summit Point Main this weekend in much cooler temps and with little elevation change so we'll see how temps compare. Have run that track in hotter/more humid temps and never run as hot as at PittRace.

i'd be a little skeptical of that... it might get warm, but its not going to transfer or retain heat and impact cooling. i decided these aluminum trays aren't for me, but they are definitely better than nothing.

Pitt Race is amazing if you're in this DMV area! I've been there twice, very fast and technical course

What issues do you guys have with the aluminum ones?
I'd think Turner would test theirs before selling it??

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

The piece from DeansBimmer is absolutely fantastic! The added rigidity is very noticeable. Although I had to also put on some latches after stripping some screws (unrelated to the undertray), and that has also added rigidity.

As expected, ran SP Main this past weekend in low 60's and didn't even hit 255 degrees for oil temp. I kinda forgot how much the engine likes the cooler air!

No issues for me! A previous poster mentioned that maybe the aluminum undertrays acted as a heat sink and thus attracted and retained heat, leading to increased engine temps. Anything is possible, but I'm not going back.
