M3 steering wheel play / lock

Hi.

Newbie 2 part question.

I have a 2011 m3.

Do the m3s have a steering wheel lock?. I read it doesn’t, but might as well tap into the brain truss.

When the car is off, and I turn the steering wheel. After a few degrees I hear a loud pop from under the hood. Up until that pop the wheels do not turn. I.e I need to turn the wheel past that pop to get the wheels to turn. Wheel turns easier until the pop. Swivel joint?
