MPE for E92 onto E90 - what is necessary?

I found a good used MPE but it's for an E92 and I have an E90. I understand the tips are longer for the E92 - is that the only difference? How difficult would it be to punch out the rivets, cut off a bit from the "front" end of the tips, drill new holes and rivet back on? Would Cyba or other tips fit?

I really don't understand these exhaust companies, they could have easily just made a vband clamp for the exhaust tips and offered us e90 shorter versions or e92.

I have an e90 exhaust and am happy to post my tips to you and you post your tips to me ? Mine is on an e93

I am in Oz so postage will likely be 50 each. And we will be without our tips for 10 days ...

All if this comes down to the looks you want on your car.

the e92 exhaust looks ridiculous on an e90 without a diffuser.

I personally think the e90 tips as they are looks too short if your car has a diffuser while they look fine with just the bumper

I have a DRB racing exhaust and i had a muffler shop extend the tips by 1 inch because I thought they looked too "tucked in" with the Arkym diffuser I have on the car

Thanks guys. Looks like the one I was interested in sold already, but good to know for the future. Not planning on a diffuser, but could maybe be open to it. Might look weird without a front lip.

I have an e90 MPE on my e93 , was gonna get tips extended, but swapping them like this makes much more sense.

Tips very clean and in great condition, so if yours are likewise I am happy to work with you to make it happen.

The painful search & wait for a proper used E90 MPE is real. I once considered this route of converting an E92 MPE, too, but broke down and just bought a new one. Couldn't be happier, I think it's the best sounding exhaust for this car.

It’s only about an inch longer. If you have a rear diffuser, e92 length is the perfect length on an e90

Based on these photos of the tips taken off, it looks like swapping tips would not work for me if I buy an E92 MPE w/longer tips and try to swap on the shorter E90 tips. Since the inner part with the "trumpet" thing at the end appears to be nearly as long as the outer tip itself, if I buy an E92 MPE and then swap on the shorter E90 tips, the "trumpet" would stick out past the outer tip, no?

Are there any other solutions that could work? I suppose you could hack an inch out of the middle of each inner tip and re-weld the trumpets back on, but that's ca lot more work - what material is it, anyway? Or maybe I could have them cut the inner "trumpet" pipes all the way off so it's just the outer part - would that look decent?

I was going to just pop the rivets off, hack off the inner, trumpet-looking tips, and rivet on the shorter outer tips but then I found out the inner pipes are actually silencers. Do you think it would sound much different without them? Has anyone tried an aftermarket tip on an MPE?

If I have to keep the silencers, that means I have to get those shortened by and inch or so and welded back on carefully. Is this part of the exhaust also Inconel? Because if so, I'll have to find someone who can weld that. Ugh turning into such a headache just to get tips shorter by an inch

I will be getting my E90 MPE V1 welded (to remove the sound issues with V1) and putting it up for sale. Let me know if you're interested.

Hmmm, you just may be on to something that will yield better volume!!! It?s so expensive, no one is willing to experiment. Remove the silencers and see what you get!!! :-) :-)

The tip sizes (length) are different between E90 and E92/93. I read somewhere the sizes are:

E92/93
189mm total length

E90 M3
147mm total length

It's very easy to drill out the existing rivets in order to remove the tips.

CYBA tips fit both MPE and OEM Exhausts and if you buy CYBA tips they come with the 16 rivets required.

I have my e90 MPE tips available for sale now if anyone wants.

I have the CYBA tips and they are a little bigger than the the MPE tips but too small to slip over them (they are the same diameter as the MPE externally but a lower gauge material)
