WTF is this weird rubbing noise?

I have an 08 E90. 6MT. EDC. All stock.

When turning left or right at very slow speeds, 2MPH - 15MPH, the car makes a very unrecognizable (to me at least) rubbing noise in the rear. Different speeds yield different sounds. Sounds worse at lower speeds. Turn up your speakers or listen closely.

There are no spacers, no wheel play, and tire pressure is good. Going back through the maintenance records, on April 15, 2017, the driveshaft was replaced due the previous owner stating "a clunking sound when turning right only." BMW stated "Driveshaft is faulty. Found U-joints in driveshaft were very loose and damaged yoke of driveshaft. Replaced Driveshaft. Noise is gone after driving car."

Any one experience this before or have any ideas what this could be ? Any help is appreciated

It's hard to tell. I would have the differential looked at, although this will typically make more noise n a turn if there are issues.

Diff fluid ever changed for the newer one with friction modifier?

Needs new diff fluid with additive.

Jeremy, agree with above on the diff. I have exactly the same when slow speed. Goes away after some driving/warming up though. FWIW I had the fluid changed at 19k (54k now), same noise before/after.
I view it as a good sign that the diff works, wouldn't add more FM just to make it silence but loosing lock up effect.

Yes, it does only make noise during a turn.

So you would or wouldnt add more FM to lose the noise? And more FM decreases locking effect?

I've been so out of the car game that i didn't even think of the differential. I'll get it flushed and refilled and see what happens. Thanks everyone.

Limited slip noise. FM comes with a price. You can add some and eliminate noise but the more you add the more slippage it may induce. Mine makes a little noise too when cold because I didn't add any friction modifier when I changed the oil.

I would not add more FM Jeremy. OEM fluid contain FM already (which Im using) and better have a little noise while cold then losing out on M diff performance.

Had the same problem. - rear diff. Replaced diff fluid with "SAF-XJ plus * FM booster *
Problem solved !

OO, that's your diff. replace the fluid

OP, did you get that fluid replaced? and did that solve your problem?

I recently started to hear this noise too. I didn't how to describe it but your video and the way your driving is exactly when and what I hear.

I know I'm really late but I just started to get this noise and an wondering if changing the fluid fix ur issue.

What everyone else said.. Rear diff.
Had the same noise as dude in video. Thought it was my eibachs.
Turns out ..had a rear diff leak (seals, gaskets replaced plus new fluid etc).
Had it all sorted out via my mechanic. She rides like new again
