Coming from a turbo charged car after experiencing a high revving motor I realized boost is great but high revving NA is an extreme thriller and just can't be replicated. I'm in the same boat as you I don't see any other car that can take my heart away unless it's a gt3 or gt3rs.. the 9k redline just sounds so gut wrenching ( in a good way of course . |

The manual e92 m3 does seem to be creeping up slowly. The e46 m3 has just skyrocketed this past few years which is easy to see why. I feel like they’ve been underrated for awhile which seems crazy to say.

Have you replaced throttle actuators? yes. Have you had rod bearings done? yes. You can have pretty high level of confidence in the car you're getting so long as your get right answers to those 2 questions. The e46 is far more vague. The car still has rod bearing problems but additional issues such as the subframe cracking and a myriad of other smaller lesser known concerns. Many e46's were just beaten to within an inch of their lives whereas the e92 has held up better due to consistently higher prices. The peak of the market for the well kept, low miles, late model, comp version coupe 6mt e46 M3 is going to be HIGH. Whereas the 2002 106k mi 6mt swapped e46 won't ever be that desirable of a car - just too many questions on it. The disparity in the e92 market probably limits value of the 2nd tier cars (~20-25k miles, normal colors, either gearbox, coupes) but general market for all e92m3's is probably going rise more evenly across spectrum of years/miles/condition/spec. You're just able to have more confidence in what you're buying and there isn't really a "unicorn" car like an 06 interlagos, 6mt coupe M3 with 18k miles and perfect service history.

Hagerty released their Q1 valuations recently, and E46 M3 is up 15% from Q1 2020.
The whole market is heating up, so wouldn't be surprised to see E9X prices shooting up in the next few years for clean examples, especially as the cars age and attrition rate increases (crashes, bad examples, etc.). These cars are a high point for the N/A BMW M formula. |

All clean examples of e9x’s will continue to go up in price.
Some prefer coupes, some prefer sedans. There is a market for both. Clean examples keep getting harder and harder to find so it will only drive prices higher. |

I had an S54 in a Z4M from new.
I started to noticed the VANOS rattle at 3200 RPM, and since it was a droptop I heard everything. I mean that is the point of a droptop after all! ...and then having to do periodic valve adjustments just kind of made me look for an alternative approach. The exhaust note did not seduce me enough to want to keep it. I traded it for the E92 at good trade value.... And then added a low mile 5 speed Z3 gem, with the M52TU- great engine. Threw Conforti tune on it, it has an LSD, Magnaflow exhaust, and it's light at 2800 lbs. Fun throw around car..... a bonus to the "ordered as I wanted it" M3

It's probably a great time to sell a one-only E90 sedan 6MT in Barbera Red. But I think I would regret that for a long time.

I have a 2011.5 6MT E90 slicktop with 40,150 miles that I'm on year 9 of ownership. Only been in rain a handful of times since new when caught out (none in the past 8 years), garaged 24/7, never a daily driver. I think of the color (Silverstone II) as uninspiring, but some people seem to like it. I'm not sure what to do with the car longer term, but for now I plan on keeping it at least another 5 or so years. I sold my incredible E39 M5 on BaT almost 3 years back now (66k miles, $34k/$35,700, immaculate condition) after it had appreciated for many years, but it would definitely sell for even more than that now. However I owned the car for 15 years and did everything I ever wanted to do with it during that time, so it was time to move it onward to its next owner; fortunately, it now resides in the hands of a car industry heavyweight in CA who is very happy with it, so it's been very well taken care of since the auction. The E90 M3 will likely lead the way in value appreciation given that there were 2.7 times as many E92s imported. There is a growing group looking for a 6MT V8 n/a sedan also. Having owned both the E39 M5 and E90 M3 for many years at the same time, I can understand that attraction.

They are so fun to drive. I daily my 2010 6MT E90, and have put 13k miles in the 8 months I've owned it so far. No plans to stop driving it, and already have done RBs and TBs.

So, yea it is kind of a plain jane M3 ... no fancy spec or color and I have done some work to it, but I couldn't go wrong with $17,000 either way. |
