December 07 Build date

Found out my car was built in December 07. Is this the earliest production date for E92 M3s?

Does anyone else have one from the same time frame? Curious to know what problems people are having with the early ones. So far, my car is great. Aside from the cowbell noise that is now gone, I haven't had any problems. it runs like a dream. Only have 16000 miles though.

Whenever I see somebody referring to late 07 builds, this is the first thing I think of:

OH MAN! Is there anyway to find out if my car was among those damaged in that incident?

Here's what I know about my car:

Production date 12/07.
Delivered to buyer in April 2008[!] (But warranty expires in June 2008, so not sure what's up there.)

That's seems pretty long after the production date to be delivered! Also, carfax says there was an accident reported, but it was very minor, and the front bumper was all that was damaged. Inspection performed and everything checked out OK. I would be pretty depressed to find out if my car was on that ship, but I guess it's fine and drives great, so maybe its better that I don't find out.

February 08' build here. No problems whatsoever, except for a bad tranny from factory which was replaced at 6000km.

I'm sure BMW has a record of which cargo ship your car arrived in. The problem I guess is how to get them to tell you. Perhaps calling BMWNA or maybe the dealer that sold the car to you?

That's good. So far, everything that i've read indicates that early E9Xs were built really well. Remember the engine failures of the E46 M3 from 01 and 02?? That was crummy for a lot of people. Don't think I've heard of anything like that in the E9X.

S65 Rules!

So, dealers can repair a damaged vehicle a vehicle processing center than sell it as new? Sounds like total BS but i believe it happens and there is probably nothing we can do about it.

Paint meter on my bumper was good all around and the car has all OEM parts. No issues really, so I should just ignore it all.

One question though: If my car was indeed damaged in that shipping accident, would that be on CarFax? I have a minor accident on the carfax when I bought this thing, but as indicated previously, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the car.

Absolutely...100% happens all the time, unfortunately.

My friend's body shop had a contract with a local BMW, VW and Honda dealership. He used to get new cars in all the time for varying degrees of body work. Apparently they have no obligation to disclose this to the consumer.

no it wouldn't make it onto carfax until the a title was punched or changed on your car. Sorry man, but since you paint depth measured fine, I'm sure you got a clean one. But sometimes, i figure what you don't know wont' kill you, personally, I'd rather not know.

No, they were building them a lot earlier than that for sale outside North America. I think the first one rolled off the line in Spring '07.

But yea, that's probably one of the earliest US builds. There might have been some in late November, can't remember for sure. You might try a search to see if you can find out more.

The cowbell sound came from the rear and sounds just like a cowbell. Search cowbell for the thread i started on it. Basically, a pebble or something was trapped in my rear brake, causing an awful sound.

HAHA! no, i meant June 2012...

I'm seriously going to push for Federal legislation that requires manufacturers to report damage to shipped vehicles. If there is significant damage, but the vehicle is repairable, it should not be sold is new. period.

6sp. The high rev grind is well documented. Use the search and you'll find a bunch of threads on it. BMW replaced my tranny but even the new tranny does it sometimes too.
