Need Help, Confused About Oil Filter

Need a little help. 2011.5 M3. First oil change since CPO purchase from dealer. Ordered this oil filter kit ECS Part #24096 from ECS Tuning. Went to put in the new filter and I swear the center plastic core of the oil filter cover wouldn't slide into the center cavity of the filter. I was running late for an appointment so I didn't have a lot of time to investigate further, but snapped two quick photos. I put the old filter back in the car and figured I'd email ECS Tuning, get the correct filter shipped, and replace it later on.

I emailed ECS Tuning these two photos and an explanation of my problem:

ECS Tuning asked for my VIN and then sent me this reply:

Quote:
Hello,

According to the part number on the new filter and your vin, this is an exact match. There shows no alternatives or supersessions that would have this part be any different from the factory part.
Thank you for contacting ECS Tuning. Please let me know if you need anything else.
So I'm guessing I'm the one missing something? Does the OEM oil filter require a lot force to install and I just didn't put enough elbow grease into getting it on? Is it possible the oil filter cap on my car is from a different model with a larger plastic core, but still threads on? Which oil filter looks more correct per the center core opening to you, the old or the new? I took a few more photos of the new filter I had trouble with. Thanks.

it should be a snug fit. it needs a little 'motivation' in fact to slide it on.

it's the correct filter. I use their kits exclusively. you need to go to the store and buy yourself some elbow grease

I can confirm as well, the filter needs some unexpected force when being installed. Definitely wasn't like other cartridge oil filters I've seen.

Is this an OEM filter/Mann filter or something different? I've only used oem on the M3 and never used an ECS filter and I don't remember having to force anything on and I've done a few oil changes. I'd stick to oem or Mann if I were you. I used Mann on my 335i and also never had to force it. Same setup. Just my 2 cents.

ECS uses Mann filters.
