It’s a monster and about as straight as I can expect any club to be. Strongly recommend.
I looked into the GT2, but I really don't want to spend that kind of money right now, especially when I am just now working with a pro to dial in my swing and what works best. But the GT2 is very tempting though! I have heard great things about the GT line!

So, to talk about what you said above and what the Pro said when I had my lesson on Saturday. My Ping G30 is over 10 years old. I am still new when it comes to shaft specs and head specs. The Pro was looking at my driver shaft and he said its a flexible one and made for seniors. Which makes sense since my dad bought that over 10 years ago in Florida and doesn't play anymore.

You could see in the video of me swinging the Ping, the shaft looked like it was completely bent going through my swing. The Pro said my natural swing is just forceful and strong that the flex shaft is actually hurting my driving game big time. I was driving the ball about 230 with ball speed almost 7k RPM. Which is crazy!

He put his Qi10 LS with stiff shaft driver in my hands and instantly could see the numbers improve. We tweaked a few things with my swing and now I am consistently hitting the ball over 270-290 yards on 3/4 swing effort.

Now, we are looking at finding a driver that would be a great fit!

Bought a new driver! Testing it out today after work! Freakin steal of a deal! All brand new too!

Driver head: Taylormade Qi10
Shaft: Fujikura Motore X F1 7-X Extra Stiff Shaft

Can't wait to feel the difference from my 10+ old driver that has a senior super flimsy shaft.

For those of you in the bay area - I have a couple extra slots open for Half Moon Bay on the 22nd, Saturday afternoon. Shoot me a DM if you want to come play. We'll be playing the Old Course, so all you short hitters / old men shouldn't be at TOO much of a disadvantage lol. Lots of layups and doglegs where I barely ever pull out my driver. I do hit it 300+ when it comes out though...

Well that didn’t take long!

Looking forward to your thoughts on the new driver. The tech has come a long way in 10 years but as I was told years ago, it’s usually the Indian and not the arrow.

Enjoy those years. Eventually you find "hey I nutted that and it didn't carry that trap".

I swear they move traps back on some courses.

Going to see my golf instructor today after work. I went to a low end golf sim last Thursday and wasn't impressed with the sim and the room. Only paid $20 but it was definitely "you get what you pay for" type situation. The room was small, the mat was warped. The tees were broken and garbage. The actual sim wasn't reading right and short changed my drives by over 50 yards or more. I had to get out of there and didn't want to mess up my swing.

I reached out to my instructor and asked if I could come in next week (this week) to get the driver dialed in and work on their very nice and accurate golf sim. Going today and cant wait to see the difference since I used the same place for my older Ping driver and have a good baseline.

Will report back later tonight...hopefully positive!

Hello All,

A little update from my hitting sessions with my new driver with my golf instructor from Thursday.

Instantly I could tell a difference with the two trackers. The one at my golf instructors place was a lot more accurate and precise. I was consistently around 270-301. With the other place, I was around 190 - 220 with a few around 250.

Ball just jumps off the face of the head and when I fully connect with the ball..wow, it's truly amazing! The pure sound of the face is very nice!

I still need to get the driver dialed in. I bought a new golf mat, golf net and I am looking for a golf ball tracker. I am leaning towards the Rapsodo MLM2PRO or the Garmin R10.

I'd love a tracker that says 270-300 yards. Problem is I'd know it was lying. LOL. A good drive for me is now 260.

I guess at 70 still hitting a 7i 160 carry and stopping like a butterfly with sore feet is something to be proud of.

Haha! To be honest, I was very disappointed the first time I swung the new driver..pretty discouraged. But I wanted to see my golf instructor before I make any rash decisions about the driver. So I am happy I was able to sneak over there and work with him and get better numbers. So I am happy. I know once I get my swing down and more consistent, I will be happier.

That is something I am working towards! Would love to do that!

I have a 45 min lesson on wednesday where I'm planning on hitting nothing but driver / 3w with the instructor.

Will report back.

Sim numbers I saw at the PXG store / PGA store sims while practicing though: 280-290 carry, 305-320 rollout. Best one I hit was 310 carry 337 rollout. Driver is a PXG 0811 Proto (gen 3 from like 2021).

Since folks are talking about drivers i wanna share a recent simulator experience. I was playing on a trackman system. I was seeing swing speeds of 108 to 110 mph max and i hit a few right on the screws. However, my longest drive only went 255 yards. I'm thinking I must be producing a ton of backspin and the system is dialing back my distance. When I'm flushing the ball and getting those swing speeds I should be seeing 270 to 280 off the tee on average.

Anyone else see inconsistency from golf sim experiences like that? For some reason I never feel like my driver is accurately represented in a simulator setting. Last time I golfed on a real course I was driving the ball 270 to 280 all day with a few going over 300.

Those are great driver numbers! How often do you play?

I was swinging 3/4 speed at the time..I am not there yet to fully unleash my swing or else it will be a major slice. So I need to keep telling myself a 3/4 swing will get the job done!

Yeah, let us know how your session goes. I am planning on going either Wednesday or Thursday to the range for a few to hit some. So we will see if that happens! Spring time house projects will be getting in the way. lol

I will take a stab at this...

When I went and saw my golf instructor with my old Ping driver, my ball backspin was around 7k...consistent around 6300-6700. He mentioned since by ball has so much backspin it was robbing me of yardage. Keep in mind, my old Ping is over 10 years old and had a very flexible shaft. He then handed me his Taylormade Qi10 LS driver and we could see my balls backspin went down to about 2500-3000 which turned out to give me a lot more yardage....40-50 more yards.

When I went back to him last Thursday, (first time seeing him with the new driver) I was consistent around 2300-2700 with some backspin touching 3000. My new driver is the Qi10 with an extra stiff shaft.

I was running into the same issue at a different sim about 1.5 weeks ago. I explained to my golf instructor and he said the elevation could be off and not reading correctly.

Hope that helps!

Apparently my swing has backspin. No driver fixs that. Plus a swingspeed of about 90. Guess I got to live playing short.

Interesting, im getting lots of backspin with my Ping driver with regular flex shaft. You might have helped me write a business case to buy a different driver. I swear I hit it farther when playing on a real course but maybe there is something to this.

My old Ping was a G30 with the blue shaft. My dad bought it in Florida back in 2012-2013ish. He hasn't played in over 7 years, so he was nice enough to let me have it.

I felt the same way until I started seeing the numbers on the screen and talked to a Pro. I hit the ball far when I am playing but didn't realized how much the backspin was robbing me of yardage when I played. So, all of this is new to me and definitely an eye opening experience to say the least. I am happy with the process so far.

Might be worth it to go get fitted for a new driver or at least start exploring the idea! I am happy that I did. I felt like it was the right time to start investing in some newer clubs as I am getting to that point where I want to take my game a little more serious.

(sob) Then there are those of us who were fitted for a driver and can't get rid of the backspin.

When I was fitted I saw all the numbers. I went thru Callaway, Ping, Titleist, etc. All the brand names. None brought spin rate down much. Bought the Titleist. Then 6 months later I accepted the PXG driver challenge.

The deal was you show up to their fitting center with your driver. warm up and then hit 5 drives with your driver. They then fit you with their best fit for you and if it doesn't outperform yours you get a $100 gift certificate.

Theirs beat mine by 3 yards and slightly less dispersion. Not enough to buy but no certificate.

I asked them if they gave away many certificates and they said not many.

I'd try to change my swing for more distance but reality is I am very consistent and hit fairways and am pretty good irons so don't want to mess up too much. Plus at 70 clubhead thing is probably a thing of the past anyway.

From what my pro golf instructor said, its the shaft. I went from very flexible to extra stiff. His driver was stiff.

I got a new driver because of the old tech and there was a dent on the toe of the driver. So I said, lets just go ahead and replace it after seeing the results of hitting his driver! Plus, I got the new driver for a great price and it was tough to pass up! I plan on keeping this driver for another 10 years. So it was worth it to me to spend a little.

I never knew PXG did that! There is a PXG about 15mins from me. So I might head there this summer and see what it's all about.

That is why I bought a golf mat and golf hitting net. I want to be able to work on my swing when I have some extra time during the week. It's better than heading to the range and it's about 1.5hr round trip for me. So if I can just head outside for 15mins to work on my irons or driver..then it's all worth it. I just want to be more consistent hitting my irons and making good contact.

I will be in the market for new irons next summer. I want to focus on the above first and go from there.

I dont agree. 70 isn't that old anymore. Use all the new tech and maximize the game. My 2 cents.
